Default Model 4006TSW

My Drawbar does not have a Trigger Play Spring mounted on it. Should it have a Trigger play spring or is there a reason it does not because of it being a TSW? The trigger in single stage has a lot of play and feels terrible is this the problem? This really bugs me when I am shooting any help would be appreciated.

Is it one of the California Highway Patrol pistols serial number beginning with CHP? If so they were made without the trigger play spring.*

randyp is correct that the CHP guns were requested with no trigger play spring, but the original design is such that the pistol was supposed to have it, and yes, the TSW guns were also supposed to have them. And while the CHP guns specifically do NOT have them, the design is no different -- they just eliminated them.

And it does sound like your pistol is exhibiting the annoyance associated with a limp or missing trigger play spring.

Putting one in there would likely improve what you are experiencing.

I'm curious now and since I don't have a CHP one, was there a hole drilled for the trigger play spring rivet or was that left out too?

The CHP 4006TSW did not include a rivet hole:

Thanks for all the replies about the 4006TSW Drawbar. I love the gun but why the Trigger play spring was left out still eludes me. I think I may add the spring unless someone can tell me why it would be a bad idea? Thanks to all.

So IS it a 4006TSW CHP model?

Is there even a hole for the trigger play spring rivet?

I guess there is if you're thinking about putting a trigger play spring in.

Just wondering once again.

Trigger play springs are light weight, somewhat flimsy pieces of metal that can easily be bent or broken during vigorous and inattentive cleaning.

So the springs would get damaged and the pistols would be turned in for repair, requiring a temporary replacement pistol to be issued and creating back-ups and headaches in maintenance, supply, and logistics.

Department armorers quickly realized that a broken or damaged trigger play spring did NOT disable the gun, it only caused a "floppy" trigger, that few noticed or cared about.

With its thousands of guns, departments like the CHP finally determined that ordering the pistols without a trigger play spring eliminated the maintenance problems.

Personally, I like the trigger play spring and the way it makes the trigger feel and I replace them if damaged or missing, with the exception of the CHP 4006TSW, and that's only because that's the way it came from the factory.

Does that help answer your question?

John

Machined barrel recess - this feature is machined just forward of the feed ramp and seems unique to the CHP pistols; its purpose is unclear at this time.
Did anybody ever find out the purpose of this machining ??

I guess there is if you're thinking about putting a trigger play spring in. Actually new or old drawbars are available on E-Bay at very good price. I would just replace it so I could always put it back to original.
