Trigger play springs are light weight, somewhat flimsy pieces of metal that can easily be bent or broken during vigorous and inattentive cleaning.
So the springs would get damaged and the pistols would be turned in for repair, requiring a temporary replacement pistol to be issued and creating back-ups and headaches in maintenance, supply, and logistics.
Department armorers quickly realized that a broken or damaged trigger play spring did NOT disable the gun, it only caused a "floppy" trigger, that few noticed or cared about.
With its thousands of guns, departments like the CHP finally determined that ordering the pistols without a trigger play spring eliminated the maintenance problems.
Personally, I like the trigger play spring and the way it makes the trigger feel and I replace them if damaged or missing, with the exception of the CHP 4006TSW, and that's only because that's the way it came from the factory.
Does that help answer your question?
