Competition Family
This is a family picture of my S&W competition family. The two 52-1’s are in the 55,000 s/n range, about 300 apart. Probably late 1964 according to my research. The 952 is a -1 model. The tired looking 7” 41 is my favorite. It shoots much better than it should, don’t judge a book by its cover.
Thanks for the opportunity to share my family.

The 952-1... are you the guy who somewhat recently snagged that one from Gunbroker, like, within the last year? We talked just a bit about the fact that as far as I have seen, the visual features on that particular 952 may make that a “one of one”, not a single other 952 like it.
So I’m thinking that was you... and not a SECOND example of it, right?

It’s the visuals. Original no-dash 952’s had all laser etched markings on them. The dash-1 guns all looked almost exactly like the no-dash guns. Eventually, the look of the dash-1 changed near the end of the run and the new visuals were all stamped, almost like a prelude to the upcoming stainless 952-2.
If you look at the posted 952-1 in this discussion, it has the stamping AND some of the laser printing of the earlier style.
I saw this pistol listed on Gunbroker multiple times by the same seller who may have set his price higher than the market cared for, but eventually he found the right price and it sold.
On the left side of the slide... well there is a LOT to look at, compared to every other 952 I’ve ever seen. Thus, I think it is a one-of-one.

This is the same 952 we have discussed previously, so no, another one has not showed up. I’ve been watching since our last communication and haven’t seen another.

Got any more close-ups of the 952-1 to share?

The 7” barrel was drilled and tapped by a smith before I bought it. The rail is a generic Pic rail that fit the contour and some of the holes. The optic is a SIG Romeo 5.
