cheap but does it work?
hi folks,
have a 3953, grips factory, very slick in my hands. a member here has offered a pair of hogue grips. so we have some time on our hands, and the mind goes to work. it is not pretty, but works very well. good old bicycle tube, cut in any size/shape.....dan

Rubber grip sleeves over the OEM grip work great! Thats what I have on all my carry guns. Regards 18DAI

I don’t care for the ridge, finger grooves or on some, added palm-swell that come with the aftermarket slip-on grips.
And I also do not like the massive size of the Hogue.
For me, the bicycle tire innertube is a VERY effective solution. It definitely looks like hell. I have one on the 469 that I carry often and I’m fine with it. I am (nearly) ashamed to admit publicly that I have one on my Performance Center 845 Limited! It looks like zoo animal excrement but it give me an improved grip on the phenomenal 845.
I use one proper sized piece, not two loops, but whatever works for you.

I have mainly older pistols with exposed front and back straps. I have used my Unimat mill to relieve under the grips panel edges. I then applied skateboard tape to the front / back areas and reinstalled the grip panels.
The front strap done on my 1911A1. (S&W sights installed by Austin Belhert years ago.)

I have inner tubes on several of my pistols and I don't care how it looks. It works and is cheap like me.

I like your solution for a few reasons; its cheap, doesn't alter the factory condition of the pistol, and serves your purpose. The alternative would be to find Hogue or Pachmayr grips and what invariably happens is the original grips are separated from the pistol and lost given time.

The Hogue stocks are so thick that you might as well be carrying a stock 6946. Slip on rubber is a much thinner solution. Skateboard tape also works.

I like your solution....it has given me a great idea to solve a pesky little problem with a grip safety I have been kicking around ideas for a easy , simple solution...and this is it !

I like the Hogue grips. I don't find them too thick and the slight curve at the back bottom gives the 3953 a better feel for me. The OEM grips feel like holding a 1 x 2. Great daily carry gun.

I've always been a fan of liberal application of skateboard / traction tape to my pistols, but I applaud your use of the bicycle tubing. Who cares how it looks, I'm all about practical performance! Besides, who's going to see it anyways - it'll either be concealed or covered by your hand.
