Default Gifted 39-2

Greetings!

Hit the big 4-0 yesterday, and my pops gifted me his 39-2. I'm hoping to find the year of manufacture, but my web searches have come up short.

If anyone has access to the catalog, and is willing to check it for me, my serial number is A6164XX.

Also, he said the box is original, but it doesn't match what I've seen online. Any idea if this was a gift set or something. It was originally purchased in NH (or maybe northern Mass).

Thanks for the assist!

Hello burwen, darn nice gift. From my data, it looks like the fall of 1981.
Only a letter or SDR can nail it down.

Happy belated Birthday, and welcome to the forum. I agree that's a darn nice gift. Dad must figure you are responsible enough for a nice big boy gift. Congrats and enjoy it...looks like it's been idle long enough.

Welcome from Virginia!

Very nice gift from your Dad. That is a great gun. They are quite accurate, very moderate recoil, great ergonomics at least for me.

Mine is a 1977 and the pics are of the gun and its original box and docs.

It looks to me that if your Dad was the original owner then he, or someone may have used some foam cut-out to fit gun and mag, covered with some maroon velvet to make a presentation case of a sort. It haven't run across a case with the 2nd Amendment badge, but I have seen some custom made presentation cases for guns (revolvers and semis) that were made "one off" for retiring police chiefs that looked similar with a gun and their shield.

So...…….maybe there is a back story to your gun and that is a lot of fun especially on this Forum, tracking down the provenance of any given gun, when and where it came from, etc. and you have the best of the plan in that you can query Dad.

Did you get more than the 1 magazine?

Happy birthday and congrats on the wonderful gift.

Heed this warning...

It’s almost impossible to own just one 39-2.

Very nice big 4-0 present ...
I've always thought the 39's were sweet shooters .

It sounds as if your Dad might still be with us ... If so , sit down with him, and get all the details of the 39's and the box , write down the back story ... so many histories of family firearms just get lost to time , never written and never passed along .
Do it now , when they go it's too late . I have several of my Grand Father's and my Father's guns ...but sadly no backstory and they are now gone . I wished I had talked to them and written down all the details...now that I'm older I have forgotten a lot of the stories that my Dad did tell me about those guns...the memory fades as did the story .

Congratulations. What a nice gift, and as others have said, especially since it's from your Dad. Many older men can't express their love verbally so they express it with gifts, like a Model 39. Cherish that love and relationship while you have him. As Gary said, get the history written down so you can pass that on when you pass the gun to your children.

Born on dates do not exist. You can only go by shipping records.

Thanks for all of the responses guys!

Not much of a back story here really...his brother-in-law owned the gun and needed some quick cash, so my Dad bought it back in 82/83. In the last 27/28 years, a total of two (2) rounds have been fired through it.
