Does a S&W 1911 use the same grips as a Colt?
As the title says - if I get a pair of stag grips from a 1911, will they fit on it?

Uh, okay - a Ballastar Molina (sp) grips won't fit... So, it seemed a logical question

S&W used to sell? a checkered walnut 1911 grip with S&W medallions similar to Colt. I purchased these from a Forum member a couple of years ago, not sure if they are still available or not, but any 1911 specific grip panel should work on your pistol.

The Ballister Molina was produced in South America to a design similar to but slightly different from the original 1911. If I understand correctly, the current S&W offering is built to the same specs as the original 1911, so original pattern 1911 grips (or other parts) should be expected to fit.

I've tried to put Colt grips on a Ballister Molina and the screw holes were too close together on the grips.

There are several 'sizes' of 1911 grips. The 'compact' grips will not fit on a full size Govt. Model. There are also those cut for a magwell and variations for ambi safeties. These days you gotta know what you need. But, generally speaking, any grips for a Govt. Model Colt's design will fit those clones that are mil. spec. 1911's.

only standard Colt 1911's will fit all Ballister Molina's - holes too close together sounds like an officers model or another variation -
