Default two tone 6906

i have located a 6906 that is black up top and stainless or aluminum lower [ have only seen pictures], cannot find out anything on this combo.i have a Chief Special 40 or 9 that sports this color scheme. i have searched the web and come up with ZERO. thought i would post here and then search the forum to see what the good s&w gurus have to reveal. im going this weekend to possibly purchase and i dont like going in blind. thx in advance.

It may be a factory special but I have never seen one. It may be a 6906 with a blued slide from another gun.

Get it checked. I have a 6906, and know some retired LEO's who have them. Never seen anything but stainless slide on satin alloy frame.

Maybe there's a 6904 frame sporting the upper from OP's '06 out there somewhere.....

Check it out as it may be a Performance Center Shorty-9.

I got a mint Reg Magnum that was sold as a "S&W .357magnum" for the price of a Model 28.

I’ve got one. It was cataloged as a 5906 though.

TNZ71, that's no 6906, or 5906 either. Or Shorty 9. You just funnin' with us?

Those front serrations and Performance Center logo positively scream 9 Recon, though the S&W verbiage on the slide is gone.

Oh yeah it is a Recon but the frame definitely is also the same as a 6906.

What you have here is an early (1993) Performance Center "Shorty 9", model number on box is PC5906 ... don't ask me why the model number is PC5906 as it makes no sense since it is the physical size of a 6906 and not a 5906.

I have 2 x 1st model Shorty 9s and 1 x 1st model Shorty 40 with a special order Briley .357Sig barrel. Bought 1 of each brand new. Fired once a piece then put away. Friend / member Mark Calzaretta found a lightly used PC5906, (shorty 9) that has light handling marks on it, so I carry the used Shorty 9 when the mood strikes me.

While on my venture to find the Briley .357Sig barrel, found out there was only 1, ordered from the factory, with the 2nd .357Sig Briley barrel. Of course buddy Mark owns / ordered it and could not be convinced to sell it to me.

Took me 18 years but i found a brand new, genuine Briley .357 Sig barrel for the Shorty 40. Even though it is a "drop-in" barrel, Briley offered to fit the barrel to the gun for NO CHARGE, except the cost of mailing the gun them and the would pick up the freight mailing it back.

Very nice experience with Briley. They actually have a real live person answering the phone ! Within 3 minutes your chatting with an engineer. Amazing company. If they charged double what someone else charged, I'd still go for the Briley. (well they are a bit more expensive but worth it, I feel).

NOPE. This is a first model (1993-ish) Shorty-9. Original lagel on box names it as a PC5906 which makes no sense but that is how it's labeled.

See post 11 from the owner of the pistol.

If you can show me a photo of a Shorty 9 with front serrations, I'll gladly correct my post. I'm well aware of the 5906 PC-9 designation strangely applied to the first set of guns. Here's another thread to add to your list:

Shorty 9 production numbers confirmed! PHOTOS ADDED post #10
