Terry,

Most likely 1989 build date. Any of the double stack 9mm magazines will work, like the 5904/5906 mags for instance. Obviously, they are too long, but function fine.

Here's my "TDL" prefix 6906, also built 1989........

1989 is a good range start. That was they year the model was introduced. I have a TECxxxx that falls into the 1994 range. It has the squared trigger guard. Was a LEO trade-in at a LGS, has some holster wear. Try a Wolfe factory stock spring set and yours will be good as new.

How could it have a round trigger guard and be first year production?

Hi, Terry!

I, too have a 6906 with round trigger guard and laser engraving on the slide instead of roll marking.

Serial # TDS7497

It also has the identifying agency marking of A0713 laser etched on the right side of the frame, slide, and barrel.

Mine is one of many that were issued to the California Department of Corrections and were available about seven years ago.

Per S&W, mine was shipped in March of 2000.

Hope this helps.

John

Unlikely.

The round trigger guard was introduced in 1992 or 93. The SCSW doesn't show a TDS series of serial numbers, but that's on only a rough guide.

I have a round trigger guard with a TZR number that dates to 1996.

So, it's not an early gun, but how late into production it was made you can probably only find out by calling customer service and asking.

Gary, I'm pretty sure the OP has one of those California Department of Corrections 6906s that were available some years back.

Your best bet is to call S&W and depending on who picks up they'll at least tell you month and year but you could get lucky and get the exact day as well. I've even won the jackpot and was also able to get product codes for 6 firearms when I called once.

I think you're right. I had (wish I still did) a DOC 3913 with a TDT serial number. As I recall, it had an inventory number, but I think it was a Bxxxx number

I acquired mine 2013, but I don't remember when it was made.

Yes mine is marked on the right side, same places with the AO number, I also thought the engraving looked strange too, must be the laser you are talking about. It came from Utah, so could have started life from Cali. terry

I got mine from CDNN back in November 2012.

They had a bunch of them.

Very late production for the model 6906.

By the re-import marking on the slide, I'd say it left the country.

Israel is my best guess.
