Dagnabbit! That's my tax dollars that bought those things, now the Commissars here in Commiefornia won't let me buy. Sure hope the Supreme Court takes Peņa case and kills the CA roster. Those 4006's are a lot gun for the money!

Talking

I ordered one of these last week, it just arrived at my LGS yesterday afternoon and I'll be picking it up tomorrow morning.

It's an outstanding value for the money and I'm really happy that they're available again because I missed out when they first hit the market a few years ago.

I recommend that anyone who's interested order one immediately, as these are likely the last of them out of CHP's armory. They're a bit cheaper on certain websites and come with an extra magazine, but they lack a factory hardcase or new Hogue grips.

My condolences to those in California who can't get their hands on one.

Mine was in very good shape and had only very minor grip scratches.

I'm really happy with the one I received from Gunbroker. Seller had/has close to a HUNDRED and I viewed every one multiple times, all pics and angles (quarantine provides lots of time!). $450 plus another $20 for the third magazine. He had others with more visible wear for $50 less, plus near-mint ones for $500. I probably could have done a bit better with other sites but I wanted a very good look at the one I'd be purchasing. Even if these were not so readily available right now I would still have a hard time buying sight- unseen. I think I made the right choice!
I disassembled it and found it to be very clean. The magazines had very little wear too. All three have blue followers, and none have the "Restricted/LE and Govt use only" markings from 94-04.
Member adrianolson was good enough to share in another thread that the white padded boxes were used to ship the new M&P's to the CHP. I really enjoy knowing the little details like that.

I actually contacted him through GB and then TALKED, (yep actually talked,) to him on the phone.

It’s probably not a thing GB likes or even allows but we reached a very agreeable price for one. It looks almost brand new inside and out and the original factory grips and magazines are as new also. The box, (like the one you pictured,) had “WOW” written on the end of it in Sharpie.

Super nice guy and an exceptional CHP example for an outstanding price.

The seller's pics did a better job of showing wear, which wasn't much. You could tell he went out of his way to try and show any perceived blemishes and I sure appreciate that. No one likes unpleasant surprises!
Other threads mention that probably half of the 9,900 +/- CHP guns were purchased by their issued officers. I'm surprised that number isnt higher. I'm guessing it's the only way these guns can remain in that state.

Personally, I find wear to be part of the mystique of police trade-in firearms. Hence why I didn't mind buying one sight unseen, because I honestly wouldn't want one that looked pristine because to me that would be less cool somehow, you know?

I mean, if it's got some wear on it, then it's cool just thinking about how it was carried, whereas if it's too new-looking, then there's no mystique to it whatsoever because you pretty much know that it was either a loner firearm that spent most of its life on a shelf in the armory or inside the desk of an officer who probably spent more time filing reports than busting criminals.

Annnd... Now that I've said that I've probably jinxed myself so tomorrow when I pick mine up it will be Like New.

Another member is with CHP and posted his 4006 which is only a few digits off of mine. I'm curious if they were issued in SN batches, and maybe mine was issued to someone in his group? It would be fun to find out if it was used by a patrol officer or some special group. SWAT/Meter Maid/Desk Jockey? I'll probably never know.

I just got home with my 4006TSW CHP. Much to my satisfaction, it does indeed have a bit of external holster wear, most notably on the rail, which leads me to believe that this particular 4006TSW was fitted with a flashlight or laser. (Which is odd considering that from what I've heard, the CHP didn't carry their 4006s with any mounted accessories.)
However, internally it's like new, with no appreciable signs of wear, so this gun was likely carried often, but shot very little. The bore is absolutely pristine, is the guide rod, the inside of the slide, and the rails. The BB finish is still about 99% completely intact internally, so I doubt that the gun was even so much as even cleared on a regular basis.

Overall, I'm very pleased.

I got mine off of GB a couple of weeks ago. Like many others, there's some holster and grip wear, but very nice internally. Fun pistol to shoot (our range finally opened!), and I really like the spring loaded decocker. Briefly considered getting a second, but this little piece of history is enough for me. A second would just turn into a parts gun, I think. Definitely recommend getting one before they're gone.

Just make sure it's the CHP variety, if that's the goal. He's down to 73 now, from 100 +/-.

Wherever you get it from, you should be pleased.

Im sure glad I ordered mine when I did. $399.00+ shipping for the gun and 3 magazines.....

Seems that supply has dried up.

CHP 4006 are great guns and a pleasure to shoot.....and carry.

Actually they were. 500 were inspected a month and then transition teams would go to 1 of the 8 divisions through out the state and issue, qualify, and turn in the original 4006.

Mine had some flattened diamonds on the lower corner. I cleaned them up a bit with a single row checkering file. I didn't want to replace them and lose all the character, and this seemed like a good compromise.
