Recon 45 price check

This Recon 45 was purchased new by my brother-in-law in 2000 and never fired. Several years later his young grandson came to live with him, so he brought this gun and a few others to be stored in my gun safe where the Recon 45 still resided today. I’ve searched the archives here and Google to find when these Recon 45s were manufactured and the number of units produced. The one thing that I can’t seem to find is a consistent market value, which is all over the place depending on where one looks. There is a small defect in the aluminum case to the upper left of the Performance Center logo. Here are some images to show the case, pistol, mag and knife. Any information on the current market value of this gun would be greatly appreciated.

That's a very nice package there, especially since it includes the numbered-to-the-gun knife, which not all of the 45 Recons came with. If it's still unfired, which it certainly appears to be, and has all the paperwork that came with it, that's a collector-grade package. We don't know how the production of these divided up between the black and the satin-stainless finishes, but my impression is that the black is slightly more commonly seen.

These guns aren't everyone's cup of tea with the compensated barrel protruding from the end of the frame, but there's no doubt that this is a fine Performance Center offering that would fit a niche in someone's collection.

One of these sold recently at auction for about $1,200 from a respected seller, but it showed evidence of very light use and was only the gun and one magazine. With the obviously better condition and completeness of your package here, I venture a guesstimate -- and it is only that, since there aren't any other comps -- that in the right auction (i.e. consigned to a recognized seller), it would bring $1,800 or so. This is partly based on the Shorty 45 package in ANIB condition that also sold recently and brought $2,240 on the same seller's auction. 45 Recons don't match the popularity of those guns, even though fewer were made.

If you sell it yourself, I venture you could get around $1,400 on a good day.

I sure have to agree, (once again,) with virgil617 in everything he said.

For whatever reason I’ve been “somewhat” pursuing these Shorty’s and Recon’s. It started as an accident then went from there. It seems that the Shorty 9’s and 45’s, especially the 45 MKII’s go for more than the Recon’s. Not so much with the 40 Shorty’s of course. I haven’t found a 40 Recon to compare. Yet.

With the complete package/with knife I have to imagine it would be very sought after by a few if it was advertised in the right venue.

Heck, someone here might even buy it and then cut the barrel off flush to get rid of that “stupid” comp. Then the other 610 would be worth even more.

Must be a reason why the barrel was made that way. I would never cut it off as it would ruin the shooting design of the gun. Very nice collector's set indeed.
