Default Minutia question 39-2 mag followers

Hello ardent 39 collectors. Mr. McMillans mod-39 article from the 2004 Journal and subsequent revisions has observed that at
Sn. A180000 the mag floor plate was shortened from 1 5/8" to
1 1/2" due to a small relief at the bottom of the front grip at the mag well. So its a short plate but still retained the steel figure 8
follower. The base plate is stamped S&W. OK, short plate, steel
follower. Now at A200000 the mag follower was changed to a molded black plastic material. The short plate was retained.
Is my logic and observations solid? Just looking for opinions.
Best, Mike
