I don't understand this question.

I love my 1006... but hated the safety. All of my Berettas are now G models, so I knew what I had to do... convert to decock-only.

I have never seen one of the extended mags in person. Don't think I even knew they existed before joining this forum.

Possibly a typo?

By the time the Ferrari was white, S&W was the pistol of choice.
True they had to blow up the corvette cloned Daytona so no more bootlegged ferrari, they got a real one. I have never seen a hard chromed bren ten but if the interwebz says they were made then surely they were.

After some poking around, it looks like the hard chrome slide from the factory was only available on the Special Forces (Commander length) pistols. It was known as the Special Forces Model L (for light). The black slide one was the Special Forces Model D (for dark)

My memory had a full sized pistol as well, but it must have been one chromed after-market to look like the Miami Vice pistol.

My apologies to the OP for the hijack.

Sonny's Bren X was was hard chromed so that it would be easier to see in night scenes.

I have run a couple of 10mm guns. Originally grabbed a 1006 that I found at a small shop in AL for about $450. Great shooting gun, not much aftermarket support and IIRC mags were hard to come by. After a couple of hikes in the woods I became disenchanted with the 42oz weight. For a range gun it is a nice rig.

I then went to a Glock. Way more aftermarket and mags are easy to get. Muzzle rise with the light weight is significant, especially with hot rounds. The Glock would also bulge brass in a somewhat concerning manner.

Biggest issue with 10mm is cost and availability of ammunition. I ended up mostly reloading. Definitely have to collect your empties as others don't often have the caliber or also pickup their brass.

If you have the itch, scratch it. At the end of the day I do wish I hung onto that 1006 as it was unique in my modest collection. But I don't miss the caliber.

The 72 Daytona dead giveaway that it was a replica was the automatic trans. But there is a lot of cool info out there about the Miami Vice cars.
I forgot that Sonny’s backup pistol was a S&W 9mm. Totally cool.
Wasnt someone remaking the Bren? Omega maybe? It was many years ago but I was sure.

The latest remake seems to have succumbed to the Bren curse also.. been dead in the water for nearly a year.

I have a Ruger Target in 10 mm with a spare 40 caliber 1911 barrel and a S&W 610. I've shot probably 100 rounds of full power 10mm in each but lots more 40 caliber. I've got lots more 40 brass that's reloadable but only a couple hundred 10mm. They're great fun as 40 shooters.

I think some forum members here have taken the 4013/4014 to 10mm conversion an extra step by installing the slide and barrel on a 4516-1 or -2 frame for an all steel single stack compact 10mm 3rd gen.

I've shot. Cast and loaded 10mm for my old 1006 w/adj sights. Recently purchased a RIA 10mm 1911 with adj sight. Its really a nice gun. Although I have 2nd generations in all calibers the 1911 platform just feels better in my hand.

I used a 4516-1 frame & a 4013(R3) upper.

The combo had inherit issues trying to mate the narrower .40/10mm mag in the 45ACP magwell, or the .40/10mm cartridge in the 45ACP mag, beyond the quirks of being converted to shoot 10mm Auto.

The 4516's all stainless steel frame added 7.45oz to the combo.

Won an auction today for a MINTY 1086 in original box, papers, with 3 mags. Palm swell grip. Factory night sights. A bucket list gun for me.

I might be done buying 3rd gen 10mm pistols for a while until I can afford a 1046.

Unfortunately the DAO guns are my main interest so I don't really have a choice but to buy a 1046 eventually some day

Now my 3rd gen gathering is rounded out for now... back on the hunt for another SFPD or SAPD Model 58.

I thought his back-up was a .45 Detonics in an ankle holster? That always made me laugh, because my .380 Kel-Tec weighs too much for my ankle. A Detonics is by no means a featherweight!

Default single / double stack

I have a Colt double eagle in 10mm with compensated barrel. It is a single stack and very accurate. My most accurate 10mm is from STI however it is a 2011 and not as much fun as a 1006 due to the heavy guide rod springs.

If you want to spend a little more, double stack STI. They make several models in 10 mm.

Owned a number of 10's and now own a 1026 and a 1066. The RIA Ultra I had was the most accurate a Glock 29 the one I couldn't shoot accurately no matter what. Prefer the Smiths and carried the 1066 regularly with 180 grain Gold Dot Underwoods when I worked in a Pawn Shop and got stuck on the late shift till midnight.

Have owned several 10's but the old Smiths IMO are the class of the field. Owned a Glock 29, a couple RIA 1911 10s and now have a pair of Smiths in a 1066 and a 1026. Prefer the Smiths to all I have looked at owned and fired to actually carry. Carried the 1066 in a nice leather Don Humes when I worked at a local Pawn Shop and got stuck in the particular shop that stayed open to midnight in a bad section of town. Had others but trusted my life to the old Smith if that says anything. On the Brenn 10 they are notorious for reliability issues in particular with full power 10mm loads. Have thousands of rounds through 10's and the one pistol that I have never had a single issue with are the Smiths.

Nope.

Sonny's 'back-up'/2nd gun was a 3" Detonics Combat Master which he carried in an ankle holster. (Obligatory pic attached).

For some great action-sequences where he shoots that gun and his 10mm Bren Ten, I can highly recommend the Season 2 pilot, 'Prodigal Son.'

But..
You are right, but I am ALSO right. Soooo “nope” is hardly a proper response.
He also had a Detonics Pocket 9 in the waistband.

Still 'noper.'

Both of those guns you mention were one-offs for him. One or two episodes at most.

Crockett's primary EDC/UC weapons were (in S-1 & S-2) a 10mm Bren Ten in a Galco Jackass SH, and the aforementioned 3" Detonics .45 in an ankle holster, as pictured above.

After S-2, he switched from the Bren Ten to a S&W 645 in a SH, and that lasted until the final season when the 645 was replaced with a 3rd Gen 4506. The Detonics .45 in the ankle holster appeared in several episodes after S-2 as well.

So there you go, ... now you're officially 'in the know.'

I’m a little surprised a single stack 10 from STI hasn’t already been represented...

Here’s mine:

Department I worked for had a 1076 they had received as a test prior to deciding on 9mm then .40 Glock. Sat in the armory for years, asked if I’d be willing to trade a Glock 23 for it took about 1/2 a second to agree since it had 5 mags and less than a box of ammunition fired. Fits in nicely with my 1006 and other gen 2 & 3 Smiths especially since after we were allowed personally owned weapons. My 229 and 1911 got the duty carry.

I know a (now retired) city cop who qualified with and carried a model 1026 off-duty, until he later came into a lightly-used 1066, and switched to carrying that.

He liked the 4.25" "Commander"-size better for concealed carry when O.D.

Default 1086 & Night sights

I have fired my old patrol partner's m1076, but prefer my slightly shorter DAO model.
I once took a doe with mine at 57 paces.
It's a fine handgun.
I just picked up a 1086 with Trijicon night sights. I seems like all 1086 pistols have the night sights. Does anyone know if this is true? My pistol was made on 12-6-1990 and the sights are marked 1993. I'm going to pay for the "Letter" when I can afford it but would like to know if all 1086 models had the fixed Trijicon sights.

Mine has them, but they’re totally dead and I have no desire to get them redone.

I also prefer the full size 1006 with slide mounted decocker and 5” bbl. I am happy they’re single stack - can’t imagine packing the added weight of a double stack.
