Default 4506 on the range..........

My agency had our retirement qual on Monday, which was a bit of a surprise since rona's still in town. I showed up in an Hawaiian shirt and qualed with my 4506, so I had the biggest gatt and the coolest shirt. Over half the guys were sporting. 380s and the like. I told the rangemaster i'd wait and let the ladies shoot first. One of the boys from my old division showed up with an HK P7, our divisions old issued sidearm. I'd say he tied me for gun hipster style points, but he was only dressed in a t-shirt, without Ray Bans or Van's as I was, so I'd call it a tie. I thought about using the shoulder rig, but I decided to give the appearance of at least semi-professionalism and went IWB.

You are obviously a man of great taste and impeccable style. Was it only the mossbacks qualifying or were the youngsters about?

Everytime I qualified with my 4506-1 the glock kids would ask if it was a Sig. They didn't even know that Smith once made nice metal framed guns. Regards 18DAI

I was able to carry my P7M13 as a station gun, not regular patrol, (which was a USP45).. You got me thinking I should do LEOSA with my 4506 in Aug or Sept...

I have a few Hawaiian shirts, but never wear them. Now that it's warming up, there's really no reason not to.

I just have to remember not to tuck them in and wear suspenders like an old guy.

Just about every time I bring a 3rd Gen to the range, which is just about every time I go, someone asks me what that is I'm shooting. When I explain, they are invariably disappointed that they aren't still being made.

A friend of mine tried my 457 a few years ago. He offered to trade his 1911 on the spot. I demurred.

Thank you sir.

This was retirees only. So, it was oldsters with only the range masters being the exception. My agency does retirement qual by division, or Troop level, so there were around a dozen oldsters who showed up. I knew most of them, but there were a couple I'd never met. Must have been field trip day at the home. Being a recent retiree, I was one of the younger ones at 54. The head range master is a gun guy, but a younger one, so he'd never seen a 3rd Gen. Smith before. He was standing behind me when I shot and said, "That shoots a big a** hole." I replied, "It's a big a** gun."

The division where I spent the last twelve years of my career carried the P7M13 for years. They started when the rest of the agency was still carrying revolvers. I transferred about a year after they replaced them and I've always regretted not being able to pick one up on the cheap.

The bro with the P7 shot alongside me and only brought one magazine. Considering it's a 50 round course, I had my usual twin mag pouch under my shirt and pockets filled with mags for the 4506. Every time we had to stop so he could reload his one mag I gave him **** about it. "Hey bro, you need some help?" "No worries dude, our time is your time." "Hey, is the sun going down?"

Carried a 4566 until I got caught up in the plastic fantastic hi-caps and went G22!

The day I retired sold the Glock and put the 4566 back in rotation.

I never "loved" that G22 but the iconic Gen 3's are awesome!

As a POST Certified Firearms Instructor I get to do the Quals! "s

All the best in retirement. It's been 15 years for me!

This may be minor, or major, heresy but shelved my 1911 for duty carry and broke out my G22.

I figured just in case I got some nasties on me and had to be decontaminated I'd rather have my Glock steam cleaned then a real wood and steal gun.

A few years back I did a retiree qualification with a Luger. That was fun. They looked at me strange though.

Extra style points if you did it with a shoulder stock attached.

When I was on the job people would sometimes ask me if I wished I could carry a personally owned weapon on duty. I always replied with a no. I was more than happy to let the company plastic fantastic get rashed up in the company owned holster.

However, now that I'm retired and this may be the apocalypse, no way am I facing the end of days with combat tupperware.

Weapons have to be on the Department "approved" list.

Luger didn't make it on the list

Yeah I thought long and hard about it.

Starting June 1 I'm going back.

The 4506 is a great handgun. My favorite full size 45 ACP hands down.

I have learned to appreciate "Tupperware". I may get some more.

Sounds like fun at the retirement qualification.

If you qualify with that, you have to wear a pickelhaube helmet. It's a rule.
