5906 serial ID
Just picked this pistol up but, can't find year id strange serial.
TCE85XX help would be appreciated.

I would guess 1989, or perhaps late 1988, based on the numbers in the Catalog. Someone will be along to correct me in a few moments.
Enjoy your 5906....the Sherman tank of the 3rd gen semi-autos.

I would concur with armorer951. The catalog lists the following known serial number ranges:
1988 TBL7955-TCB4082
1989 TED
Thus, yours would seem to fall, as armorer951 said, somewhere in late-1988 or early 1989. You could always reach out to S&W for a verification letter, and they'll be able to tell you with much greater precision.
An outstanding gun! Love all my 3rd gens! I generally collect S&W 3rd gen .40s, but I'm still on the hunt for a 5906.

Thank you for the input, I was a little confused on the "TCE"
No matter. Now I seem to have sporadic ejection problems
that I must figure out. Other than that I really like these old school pistols, this one is on target.

Disassemble pistol & soak extractor in CLP. It worked for me & may work for you.

Thanks for the replies, A good cleaning and, lube solved the ejection problem. Next I had to figure out the magazine not dropping, seems the magazine was getting hung up on the inside of the grip. Found some new grips...problem went away. Now I have to figure out the side to side play in the rear sight blade, is there a spring in there that failed ? How do I remove this sight to check this ?

I've attached a schematic which shows the adjustable sight on the semi-auto pistols. It's held in the fixture with (3) spring loaded plungers....so use caution if you decide to remove it from the fixture. If the excess movement is in the sight blade itself, the movement may be due to improper staking of the windage nut when the blade was assembled in the sight body.
