S&W Model 459 Compact
Just got this pistol in a trade. It doesn't look like any of the 459 pictures I've looked at. It has a 3.5" barrel, slide has a rounded fixed rear sight and the small front sight is milled as part of the slide. Serial number: TAS40XX. Frame stamped Model 459 on left side above trigger. Decocker is ambi and has a screw in the right hand lever. The Pachmayer rubber grips are like a 3rd generation model with no screws but they are two piece. Back strap is checkered and front of grip has striations. Hammer has no cocking piece sticking out but does have cocking grooves on top of the slick hammer. Looks a lot like a 6904 except for a slightly different front sight and decocking lever with a screw.

Sounds like a late standard 469.

Sounds like a Model 469, but it is possible that someone put a 469 top on a 459 receiver to create a 459 short slide variant.

No way to currently post pictures. Model number stamped on frame is "Model 469".

Frame takes the 12 round magazine.

12 round mags indicate it is a Model 469, not a model 459. It is not uncommon for S&W markings to be poorly stamped. We recently had a thread featuring a S&W Model 545, something never cataloged by S&W. A close up picture revealed it was a run of the mill Model 645, but the "6" was so poorly stamped that it resembled a "5".
