Default Police marked 4006

I swapped for this today. I know the history of this gun and the department. Ive been trying to get a hold of one for a while.

Does anyone know how common it was for 3rd gens to be decock only?

This one is decock only and marked as such. Also Ive heard of some 3rd gens being ordered without the mag safety even though this one does have the mag safety.

I thought the sticker stating "special" was cool.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows anything about police dept orders deviating from the norm.

What's the "G" in "GPD" stand for?

As for LE order guns having different features from production models, others more knowledgeable than I can expound on that subject. All I know is that yes, it was not uncommon at all.

It is normal to see not normal things on police guns. The nice thing about s&w, they make special requests from departments. Take CHP, made a pic. Rail as part of the frame, CHP as part of the serial #, decocker with a decocker safety, etc..

Nice; love those old S&Ws. My first pistol was a Model 38 my dad bought in 1968 and I inherited when he passed to a better life. I was inspired to collect a full range of single stack S&W pistols in 9mm and .45. Love shooting every one if them. Enjoy your new treasure!
