Default 3913 vs 3913ls/nl grips

Basic noob question.

Are the grips between the guns any different from the 3913s and the respective variants? Just wanting to know in case I want to go with wood grips in the future.

All grips made for a 3913 will fit a 3913LS or 3913NL or any 3914 too.

The only exception is the early 3913TSW guns. Their grip frame is cut and chopped. Regular 3913 grips don't fit right because they extend beyond the cut for the magazine baseplate on the Early 3913TSW guns.

The grips frames are all the same on the other 39XX series guns. The frames dustcover area with its slant being the only frame difference on the LS and NL models.

Some folks here have KSG or Hogue wood grips on their 39XX series pistols. Hopefully they will post some pics for you to see. Regards 18DAI

I know what you're saying/meaning but just to remove any ambiguity...

The 3-1/2" barrel pistols, 3913, 3914, 3953, & 3954 etc, use the same grip, #203560000, which has a straight back.

The 4" barrel pistols, 3904, 3906, 3944, 3946 etc, use another grip, #203530000, which is longer & has a curved back.

They are not interchangeable.

I wanted a curved grip for my 3913TSW & was disappointed when I found out it (#20353000) didn't fit.

Hi Bluedot, I believe that might be correct. The 3906 and variants with the 4" barrel are considered full-size where the 3913 and its mates are compacts. so the grip is longer on the full-sized.
This is confusing since (according to SCSW-4) they're both 8-round capacity. (If you look it up, the capacity for the larger gun is not under the 3906 listing, but it is under the blued 3904 listing.) I'll be watching here for an answer to that one.

Yes and thank you BLUEDOT37! I should have been clearer. I was only referring to the compact 3913 size guns. NOT the 3906/3904 ect. Regards 18DAI

I often refer to skjos thread, The Complete 3rd Gen Model List, for info on models I'm not familiar with or don't recall.

When I noticed in a picture of the 4" 39xx 9mms that their grips were curved I checked Steve's list & saw that their mag capacities were listed as (8), the same as 3-1/2' 39xx 9mms.

Since the grip was curved the different PN# made sense so I ordered a set from Midway & was promptly disappointed once they came & didn't fit my 3913TSW.

After a little research (which I should have done first) I found that the early mags were listed as (8) rounders but it was later changed to holding (9).

The 59xx 4" models apparently had a similar change that was already noted in Steve's list as 14/15 capacity.

I asked Steve if he could update his list for the 39xx 4" models to show their capacity as 8/9 to avoid anyone else's confusion on the matter, which he did.

I can't explain the inconsistencies in the SCSW, understandably there are a few.

S&W was pretty good about throwing us curve balls, now & then, on these 3rd Gens.
