Magazine labeled NJ3, need help identifying
It's been a while since I've floated around on the forum, but I recently came across some pistol magazines that are supposedly for a 9mm Smith and Wesson (look like maybe an M&P or SD9VE)... Anyhow, one of which has a label on it of "NJ3". I was hoping to identify the source of the label is familiar with the NJ3 label. I was initially thinking they were a police trade-in of some sort, but I'm having trouble locating any information on why it would have that label.
Thanks and stay safe

More photos would be very helpful.....including the sides, and floor plate.

My suggestion is that it is a larger capacity magazine that has had it's capacity limited to either 15 rounds (the old legal limit) or 10 rounds (complying with current NJ limits). I would suspect that this magazine was owned by someone that lives in a free state and shot often in NJ. The way the homemade label looks, it may been how the owner segregated their magazines from free state versus NJ legal.

I know the gun it goes to, it's just the pictured label that I'm trying to figure out why that may be on there. I was thinking it may be a police trade-in but I haven't found any others like that, and just looking for opinions on what it may have been for.

In your first post you did not know the gun it went to. Randy was just trying to help with his suggestion of more pictures
From the one and only photo you posted the magazine on the left does not look like a factory magazine. Additional pictures would be helpful if you wanted that identified
As to the magazine that has a label out of a personal label maker stuck on the back of it, anything we tell you is simply a wild guess.
Perhaps if you told us how and where you "recently came across some pistol magazines that are supposedly for a 9mm Smith and Wesson" it might light a spark of recognition in one of your fellow Forum members.

I don't have any other pictures, it's what was sent to me and I was asked what the label means. I couldn't come up with anything other than maybe a police trade-in, so I wanted to pitch it to forum members to see what they could come up with, guesses are welcomed. I know the magazine on the right is from a 9mm Smith and Wesson, likely an SD9 or M&P (the magazine on the left is for another manufacturer of handgun). I'm not trying to identify the magazine itself, I'm just looking for guesses as to what the label could be used for.

It means exactly what the label says it is.

I "grease penciled" 1 through 5 on my 6906 mags to facilitate rotation in my carry gun (worn off long ago). Maybe the previous owner was doing similar? Joe

When the most recent capacity limit was instituted, we were given 4 legal options: surrender to law enforcement, permanently limit capacity, dispose of out of state, or destroy. This may have been a magazine that was sold to someone out of state. I don't know what the original capacity should be, but if it currently holds 15 rounds, there is the distinct possibility that it was a magazine that complied with the Florio AWB, but in making it compliant, prevented future capacity reductions. Or, perhaps a NJ resident sold the pistol when the early talk was banning all semi-auto pistols that held more than 6 rounds.
Bottom line, current capacity will give the best indication of this magazine's past.

O.P. you are chasing a ghost with no answer.
We can all speculate..... But, at the end of the day, It means only what the person who applied the sticker wants it to mean.
I will tell you this much.... it is in no way, shape, or form a department marking.
Stamped.... yes
Electro pencil.... yes.
Sticker.... no.
