Yep, sorta, its the all Blue/black model. For some reason I want this for a carry piece. I like single action cocked/locked for carry better that any thing else. My carry has been non existent but things have changed. Thanks' Aholes of the world.

Excellent 1911. I put a CT grip on mine and it shoots lights out. I really like the all black one as well. We will be expecting a range report soon!

I have one and it is amongst my favorites. One hint for you; put lots of grease on the rails! I have seen a couple 1911sc's that where under lubed and the finish was worn off the rails after only a couple hundred rounds. I have 5K rounds through mine and nay any wear, but I use lots of white lithium grease on the rails.
Also, the plunger tube on mine snapped off after 800 rounds and I installed an after market heavy duty milled one. S&W uses a cheaper version from the factory.
All in all it's a fantastic carry weapon.

This happened to both of my pistols. S&W fixed them for free but they obviously use an inferior part or attachment of this critical part.

The only caveat I can give you is the plunger tubes on these have an inherent problem of coming unstaked.
Even though I bought mine 2nd hand/used S&W covered it under warranty 100%.

It's my favorite 1911 and it eats all types of ammo that I run through it!

Picked it up today. Very nice. I do have a question. It looked like rust around the hammer, the safety area and on some of the pins. It would wipe off and looked like brown rusty residue. Have any of you seen that on these or other Smiths?
I field stripped it, not the easiest 1911, pretty tight. Really dirty from the factory, will shoot tomorrow.

I hope it cleaned up well. I seem to remember one failure, maybe a fail to feed, in it's first mag or two but been 100% after a short break in. Never an issue since. I usually put a small amount of grease (Lubriplate) on the rails of most of my autos except whatever I am carrying or my house guns...just light oil on the duty stuff. I figure it can't hurt to save a bit of wear when at the range. But that's just me and others may disagree. Let us know how it shakes out.

I just ran a couple of mags of Rem subsonic HPs with CMC mags. Ran fine, only threw one round off target at 10 yards. I ordered some white grease for the rails, will shoot more then. Sights are a little small for me and pretty useless in the dark. The safety lever did scratch the frame but I have seen that in photos so that was to be expected. The bobbed tail is really comfortable. I handled my other 1911s and now that bottom edge bugs me. If I were to change anything, it would be the sights, the hollow plug for the recoil spring and maybe an extended slide release. I love the slide on this gun.

I have had mine for a couple of years now, and love it. Carry it with a horsehide Kramer IWB holster.

I bought one of the two-tone versions maybe five years ago for $1,068 - I don't know how that compares to today's prices.
It was my first 1911 without a fully adjustable rear sight but I figured that for a carry piece, it would mostly be used at short range so a little POA-POI difference wouldn't matter. I was pleasantly surprised when it shot both my 185-grain cast SWC handloads and factory Federal and Remington 185-grain JHP loads to the same POI, right about spot-on with my POA - center of the bull with a six o'clock hold at 25 yards.

I stop by a friends place who has a steel plate setup. I only had one box of FMJ with me and eight HPs that where in the gun. Of the seven mag reloads, four had various malfunctions, mostly FTE. My friend shot a couple mags and he kept getting beaned in the forehead and didn't get through a mag without a malfunction. This was with the two factory mags. The loaded mag I brought was a cmc with HPs. I went ahead and shot that and had no malfunctions. Not sure what to think at this point. That's not many rounds but less than stellar. I do have Wilson mags but didn't have any with me. I shot two mags at home the day I bought it, one with fmj and one with HPs loaded with 8+1, and had no malfunctions. That's only 76 rounds total so far though. I will say accuracy is outstanding, and it is very comfortable to shoot. Thanks for the tip on the white lithium grease too. I will obviously keep shooting and trying diff mags to see if it improves

I've had one for a few years ago. This is a result after adjusting the rear sigh a tad. Was in a rush and only had 8 rounds, so.... It shoots constantly like this. Never a hiccup.

The "plunger tube" is that tube just above the grip on the left side of the gun, it houses the spring that locks the thumb safety up or down and provides tension at the other end for the slide release/lock. The tube is staked on from behind the slide and has been known to come unstaked (mine did).

got it thanks. I see it now on the outside of the gun.
I wanted to get another 8 round mag. Should I go with SW OEM's or Wilson's with the polymer feature? if so which model Wilson.

I've had no issues with Smith's mags, with that being said I do use and carry Wilsons 8 rounders for my Commanders and their 7 rounder for my Officer's that have the metal base plate. #47something or another, I don't remember. They have the Delrin follower and a steel base plate though.

I should probably start a new thead, but how would you compare this Smith 1911 to a S&W 745? If you had to choose one, not for carry but the range, which one?

I also have the two tone and it is a shooting trick. Best factory trigger I have ever had on a 1911. Mine also marked the rails even though I thought I kept a fair amount of white lithium grease on it. S&W said that this was normal. I figured it was done so nothing to do now but add more grease and shoot it.
It would make a great carry gun but I have not been able to bring myself to holster it yet. I have M&P 357 Sig in two sizes for that purpose.

Redcoat: I own and shoot both 1911's and a 745.
They are very different animals. I prefer the straight back pull of a 1911 trigger, and the 745 has a completely different feel.
That said I do enjoy shooting the 745. It is more accurate than I am. Easy to maintain and keep running. Failures are essentially non existent.
If I had to only keep one .45 gun it would be a 1911. YMMV. bob

I have numerous 1911's. You'll love it, it is my absolute favorite.
I had 200 rounds through mine when the plunger tube cylinder popped off. S&W repaired it, back like new again!
Enjoy it!
