Default Dept. Issued 915 ?

I would appreciate hearing which, if any, police depts. issued the S&W 915 9mm and how well they were liked, performance ratings, etc. .

Thanks.

Default Dept. Issued 915 ?

Issued? Not many. Not stateside, anyway.

However, they were frequently issued overseas, especially in the Middle East. Israel had quite a few, I believe. I could be wrong about the specific country. But Middle East surplus 915s used to pop up quite frequently, perhaps they still do.

General consensus is that the 915 is every bit as good as the 5904, its aluminum framed clone.

The 915 was an attempt to offer a lower cost version of the 5904. Fewer machining steps, leading to a receiver that has a thicker dust cover, no polishing, which gives the 915 a matte finish, and S&W went back to the earlier version 5904 slide which lacks the Novak rear sight, and the 915 had a single side thumb safety. The Model 910 was the least expensive, cutting even more machining steps and using some plastic parts.

Nice review of the differences between the 915 and the 910 can be found at this link.
$325? Difference between 910 and 915?
