Default Sw22 Victory bad barrel?

Hello. Just did the initial cleaning of the wife's new victory (never fired) and noticed what looks to be porosity in the barrel groove and one land. I also bought one new two weeks ago and didn't see this in my barrel. Is this just porosity and normal quality for these? Been a machinist for 43yrs and seen this thousands of times in various types of metals. Oh and also when I was field stripping it, the barrel retaining set screw was finger tight and barrel was very loose!! Thank you for your help. PS, sorry for the ****** photo's, hard to photograph with IPhone.

Howdy, from Texas.

The bbl in mine does not look like that, and the take down screw should not be loose! I suggest contacting S&W.

A loose screw is easy to fix. A bad bore, not so much. You say you have already cleaned it so from your pictures it looks like there is a problem. I agree with sparky that you should contact s&w about it.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I did clean and lube it like I do with all my new pistols. Never been shot other than it being test fired at S&W (there was some evidence it was test fired). I can't believe they didn't notice the loose barrel screw!! Glad I found that before the wife tried to shoot it. Guess I better contact S&W and see what they say. Bad thing is wife wants to use it for CCW class in 3 weeks, hopefully it won't be tied up by then. Thanks again.

Thank you for providing pictures and information about your new Victory pistol. Please let us know how this is resolved when you speak to Smith & Wesson.

I’m sure a loving husband would be more than happy to lend his sw22 to his wife for the class, am I right?

Just a quick update. We went to the range today and wife shot roughly 100+ rounds through her sw22. It seems to shoot just fine and was pretty consistent. She's not a pro by any means, nor am I but it did pretty well holding a nice group. First time shooting her new pistol so she's pretty happy with it. She did have some problems with it failing to strip ammo out of the mag, tried 3 different brands of ammo and both mags that came with it, same results. Not sure what's going on there, no problems with mine in that regard. I sent an email with the above pics to the gunsmith/dealer that sold her the pistol to see what he wants us to do.

I'm guessing if we have to send it in, we will wait a few weeks till after our CCW classes, she wants to shoot this for her test.

Pls. post photos of the gun. S&W didn't make any .22 caliber Victory Models and the gun was never test fired at S&W as a .22cal. If it's really a Victory Model, it started life there as a .38S&W cal. in WW2 era and your wife's gun is probably a surplus British Lend Lease revolver, called a BSR for " British Service Revolver" in .38S&W converted to .22 cal by British gun dealers after WW2 and the .22 cal barrel was installed by them , circa 1950s. Sometimes they made a new cylinder in .22 Cal, other times they sleeved the .38 cylinder to .22 Cal. No need to call S&W about anyhing regarding Victory models. Current staff rarely even remembers there was a WW2., much less any guns S&W made for the war effort. Glad other the gunshoots safely, however. Ed.

Some sw22 owners (including me) have had to tweak the ejector due to failures to eject. Maybe that’s what is going on.

Ed: The OP’s pistol in question is a sw22 victory semi-auto. Not a revolver.

Thanks for the reply. Hers is ejecting fine, it just won't pick up the next round from the mag. She goes to shoot it and there's nothing in the chamber. Will the ejector being bent cause this problem also? Thanks again.

I can’t say for sure, but if the ejector were bent too far to the right it could rub on the bolt and hinder the rearward movement enough to cause failure to feed.

I know that this is a hassle for you, but I think sending it back to Smith & Wesson for them to straighten it out is really the right thing to do.

Yes you are right and I (we) are happy they are taking care of it. The barrel replacement is a no brainier but I really hope they can get the failure to feed problem corrected. I'm really glad they are shipping it via FedEx since they have been real reliable so far on all my packages I've received the last few months. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Yes and thanks for asking. They received it on Monday (7/6) and I just received an email reply from them saying it was being processed yesterday (7/10). Hoping they would get it sent out early next week so she can use it at our ccw classes next weekend but not holding my breath. Either way I'm sure they will make it right and they are a super nice pistol for sure!!!

Just an update, still no SW22 back yet, figured it would be a few weeks at least. Good news we shared my SW22 at our CCW class today and it worked flawless.....oh we both passed our test so we are very happy!!

Default Finally!!

Well after 9wks sitting at Smith&Wesson's shop, the wife finally got her Sw22 back. They did replace the barrel (this one doesn't have any extra holes in it) and supposedly worked on the action to correct the not stripping a round every time from the mag. I was just waiting to see the results and sure enough, first thing I noticed was the button head allen bolt that secures the rear sight base was no where to be found!! NICE!! So I proceeded to field strip it only to find the barrel retention set screw was finger tight. Wow do they not check their work or what? I guess what burns me the most is she gave up over two months of her warranty sitting on a shelf somewhere at their business. I guess that's the way it goes but pretty disappointing about their QC, be different if we sent it to Joe Blow who works out of the back of a '78 station wagon. Range tomorrow so guess that will tell the rest of the story. Sorry about the rant but I've been in manufacturing for over 43yrs and this level of quality wouldn't go far in my line of work.
