Default Mod 4516

I won a 4516 no dash today on GB.
Mechanically it looks excellent, finish-wise good to good plus. What do I need to know about my new pistol?

It's a great pistol, take care of it it'll probably last forever.
My advise, load it and shoot it, and repeat over and over again, enjoy.

The bullet comes out the pointy end. That is always a good thing to know.

LOL!!!!!

The Model 4516 is a great, compact 45 ACP pistol. Being a compact pistol, I'd change the recoil spring every 2500 rounds. No need in peening the impact surfaces and recoil springs are cheap.

One of my 4516s has a 4566 top end on it. Like a S&W "CCO".
I love the 4516, and find it much more pleasant to shoot than the 4513 (Recon 45 in my case but it's still a 4513)
I have made a few magazines with a steel floorplate that sit flush, and hold six rounds. Apart from that, I use the 4513TSW magazine floorplates on my 4516, and find them to be the perfect feel.
I carry mine in a holster for a Sig 245, which it fits perfectly. Something very comforting about an all steel .45 on the hip.

Novak use to make and sell cut down mags for the 4516...... Big $$$ IIRC; I had one but let it go with the gun when I got an early 4513.

The 4516 was too heavy in my opinion for ED concealed carry compared to my 3913s..... the early 4513 mags were hard to come by in 93/94 ...... so I switched to the Sig 245 for a concealed carry .45

But I still have a 4566 if needed.

If you carry IWB I think the CCO concept is ideal...... with barrels and slides up to 4 1/4........ longer sight radius and more FPS.

My CCO 6915 is a great carry gun at 12+1and 4" slide.

The Sig 245 also almost fit the CCO definition with a short 6rd butt and a 3.9 inch slide

Not really a CCO but the Beretta 92 Compact with the new Mec-gar 15rd magazines ( using a standard mag base) is a great concealed carry hi-cap 9mm

Squid..... you need some Farrar mag collars* so your spare mag can be a 18rd Mec-gar.

* They are out of production but bet "YOU" could make some

I have one. They do not fit with the wilson mag guide installed. And for me, the mag guide is a must, or the sharp corner of the frame hits my palm.
I trimmed the magwell to about half its former height, but still I need it there for comfort.

Those steel mag bases make those guns look sharp........

I've got some of the factory 7rd flush fit mags with steel bases for my 39xx guns ... combined with Hogue wood grips they change the whole look of a 3913 to that of a cut down 39 Devel from the 80s

The ones on the Recon 45 are perfect. They are trimmed way back, but large enough to rip the mag should it stick. Change the whole look, I agree.

Probably too small for your "mitts" () but you can use a 59 metal mag base on a 6906 mag to get flush fit.

Nice 45 the 4516. The no dash is the thinnest and lightest of the all steel 3rd gen 45s.

I ran an extended test on one a few years back. Very reliable and accurate. Buy some recoil springs as others have suggested. Keep it lubed and shoot the snot out of it. Buy a few extra mags too. There are always some available on GB and Fleabay.

Enjoy that fine 45. I look forward to your range report. Regards 18DAI

I took possession of the 4516 yesterday. Man the action on this gun is slick! I'll try and figure out how to post some pics later. It's going to be a good playmate for my 457.
