Default Question on S&W Serial Numbers

On the S&W handguns which have a three letter prefix for the serial number, how did the numbers appear when the three letter code "rolled over"? For example, if a gun had the serial number TAB9999 would the next serial number be TAC0000 or TAC0? Would the zeros be placed before the number so the number portion always contained 4 digits?

Not necessarily. The progression of the three letter code sequences is often thought to be just plain weird.

The "triple-alpha" serial numbers ALWAYS have/had four numerical digits, for a total of seven characters, i.e "ABC1234".

So yes, TAB9999 would be followed by TAC0000, then TAC0001, etc.
