Default Need estimate on value of Model 659 for insurance

I have an early Model 659 date code 840417. Serial number is A86xxxx. It is a stainless 659 with ambi hammer drop. Also has shrouded rear sight. It is in excellent condition. I also have the original box in good condition. It has two magazines. I also have two holsters, one is Galco Yaqui slide, the other is a Bianchi #19L. Both are black in color. What kind of value can I place on this for insurance purposes? Thank you for the help.

Welcome! If the insurance company takes into account the gun, box and accessories in the value $600 sounds about right.

Truthfully, put down any number you want betwee $400 and $600.

It is worth so little, they won't even ask for a professional appraisal.

Now, when you list your $40,000 Purdy shotgun... get ready to submit the gun.

First, welcome to the S&W forums.
Second, that's a really nice looking Model 659 with the optional rear sight, looks to be used very little, or at least used gently and well cared for. Assuming it is used, but still with original box, paper, two mags, I'd say it would easily sell for $600. Add another $100 for the pair of holsters.

Don’t know. Last show I did with him was WPB in March. But he’s quite busy now, & open 6 days a week. Called him on Thursday to tell him my wife, & I have the virus. GARY

In that condition WITH original box, it's a solid $600-$700 with no doubt. The holsters have very limited dollar value and insurance is often hit or miss when it comes to non-original accessories.

Did the Gen 2 auto pistols come with cleaning rod, brush, and mop. If yes, what was the configuration of the rod, loop end or straight? How about a SAT? If checking a supposedly complete set for completeness, what should I look for?

Box and such adds some value no doubt. I bought one, gun only with two mags, for $400 at a gun show a couple of years ago.

That’s a tough question to answer re: what items came in the box! Like everything S&W, a lot of what you got was whatever they had!

Fixed sight guns came with no SAT. Adjustable sight guns came with that flat sheet steel keychain-type double ended SAT, at least the ones that came in the one-puece flip-top box. The two piece box guns that were roughly pre-1983 may have come with the older “screwdriver with handle” type of SAT...?

Cleaning rod for the older pistols was the short one with finger loop and that morphed later in to a slightly longer one with knurled end?
