Now I have a .45 magazine question
In trying to help out with the yellow follower vs black follower in a full size .45 magazine I found something really very weird.
I have two factory, eight round, black follower .45 magazines that DO NOT fit in my 645, 745, 845, (945 of course but,) 4506, 4566, 4563,(CQB,) but fit/lock in all my compacts. Of course they stick out but they seat perfectly. If you look at the pictures you can see that there are two slots on each side. They do not align with the “normal” slots of the other 8 rnd .45 mags I have but of course do with the compact magazines.
I have no memory of when or where I got them or which pistol they might have come with.
Any thoughts?
Jim

When you say they do not fit do you mean they can't even be inserted into the mag well or that they can be inserted but don't lock in the full-size grip frame, only a compact grip?
(I was going to joke that maybe they're "ambidextrous mags" but ASAIK none of the 45s had a production ambi mag catch option, unlike other models.)

I should have been more exact in my description.
Yes they fit into the mag well and no they DO NOT “lock” up.
I have many, (too many ?) 8 rnd .45 magazines and I can’t remember when I got these two. I’ve only bought true factory mags. I usually keep the the magazines in the original boxes to keep things complete since I have extras of all. There are some exceptions like when a pistol comes with 7-8 mags, then the “others” go into the appropriate compartment drawer.
These mags were in the 8 rnd .45 drawer. They must have came with a pistol I got because I have not bought any new .45 magazines for years.

Jim, on all of my 6, 7, and 8 rd S&W, 3rd gen, 45 mags, the distance between the top of the mag and the mag cut out are all the same.

I dont have an answer for you situation but will add that I have run into a similar issue with .22 mags for Model 41, 422, 2206. Some mags worked in all models, others only "locked up" in 1 or 2 models. My guess is that it is a tolerance stacking issue. My problematic mags went to a friend who had no issues with them in his Model 41.
