No idea of your situation but if I have one or two for a gun I figure I'm set, and just use 5900 mags for the range and reloads when carrying.

I think it's your timing that is off. A guy here on the buy/sell area of this site listed some last week. You missed 'em.

You can buy one of these and put it on an easy-to-find 5900 series magazine and it works great (plus you get 15 rounds in your 6906). Looks good and works well.

10 and 12 round mags are frequently seen on eBay. As for buying 3 or 4 or 5 at time from some online distributor at dirt cheap prices, those days ended years ago.

The supply seems to be tightening lately. A few years ago they were plentiful on line and at gun shows. I think people that have the 69xx guns are buying magazines up since no matter how nice a semi auto is, it's essentially a hammer without magazines.
The last one I bought, I stumbled on at the Texas State Store in Austin. In addition to surplus state equipment they sell items confiscated by the TSA at Austin Bergstrom (and maybe others). They had a bin with just confiscated magazines. Because I've spent the past several years going through bins of used magazines, a 3rd Gen magazine caught my eye.
It was a 69xx magazine in very good shape. The marked price was $10.00 and I didn't quite break my shoulder reaching for my wallet.
Unlike the previous owner, I packed it in my checked baggage for my trip home.

It's been awhile but I bought a couple of S&W factory 6906 magazines from Midway. They had issues so I sent them to S&W and they sent me a couple of new ones that worked perfectly. Have you tried S&W directly?

Are you looking for factory mags? Have you tried the auction sites? I've seen a few lately. Robertsons trading post has Mec-gar, which also makes several brands of factory mags. I have no connection to Robertsons, other than having purchasing a few mags from them & a Beretta 92S.

If you get really hard up, grab some Beretta 92 mags and dremel out
a slot for the 6906 mag catch. They work.

I just got 15rd 92C and 18rd 92FS mecgar mags to try that. 15+1 in a 6906 would be great.

My understanding is the 59, 92 and (many, apparently) others are based
off the Browning HP magazine.
I've got a couple of mags I went gonzo on. Added two additional catch
slots, and they fit/run in a Beretta 92, Kel-Tec P-11, S&W 6906, and an
S&W SD9VE.

When S&W was approached by the Navy Seals for a double stack version of the Model 39, S&W initially used Hi-Power magazines, but changed the design of the magazine so as to have a 14 round magazine instead of 13. At least that is my understanding of the story of the Model 59 development. This might have also been to avoid any patent infringement issues.
Browing Hi-Power mags physically fit into the 69xx pistols, but would need modification of the top left part to clear the slide stop and a new mag catch slot.
