Default Added another 3rd gen 10mm to the collection *Update* Range report in post #13

I’ve been hunting for a 1076 for a few months without any luck, when this 1026 popped up on my radar. No box or paperwork, just the pistol and two mags with a S&W plastic box for $1150. It’s had the factory recall work done and has an aftermarket bar-sto barrel. Thanks to Erocksmash for pointing out the wear on the beavertail to look for, and this one seems like it has a low round count. Here’s a couple of quick pictures. I’ll field strip it when I get home and take some better pictures.

I like it! My 1006 was the fist S&W semiauto that I ever owned and I've had it since 1995 or 1996, but I got it from my buddy who bought it brand new in 1992 so it's kinda been with me since that time.

Of the six different 10mm S&W pistols they made, everyone has their favorite pick, but I can honestly say that the 1026 is the only other one that truly has my interest. Yours looks pretty spiffy!

I'll agree with Sevens above... out of all my 10s my fav is my 1026 hands down... just a big ol cannon... yours Tom I think may have some provenance given the warning on the slide, may be worth a letter sir... maybe an old Leo gun ?

"Just a big ol cannon" ....couldn't have said it better. But they are accurate and a hoot to shoot.

Got home and broke it down. Found a couple of nice surprises. In addition to the Bar-sto barrel, it has a shock absorbing two piece guide rod, which I’m not familiar with. It looks like it says Shock-Tee on it. I was going to pull the stainless GR out of my 1006 and put it in the 1026, but this one was already in it...cool. It also has a bushed recoil spring. Is that a Briley bushing? The internals look good. Some wear on the camming lugs, but not bad. Rails look good, but dry. The dimpling that Erik pointed out to me looks pretty insignificant, definitely less than on my 1006. Hard to get a good picture of it, though. Now she just needs a good cleaning and a range trip!

Most likely a Virginia State Police gun. I have a couple of them. Very nice 10mm.

Very nice, I think the 1026s are the most underrated of the 10XX line. Looks like it's got a bit of history behind it too.

Somebody did a lot of work and spent some serious money on that pistol. The selection of parts and modification of the stocks tell me this was likely a competition pistol, maybe used in IDPA matches or similar. Looking forward to a range report.

Can’t believe I’ve had this beauty for two weeks and just now got to the range. Ran a couple of mags of old Hornady xtp that I needed to rotate out. Then let my son try it out. Made the mistake of passing the whole ziplock baggie of ammo to him and he wouldn’t give it back. It definitely shoots better than I can shoot it. Feels more solid than my 1006 with the upgraded recoil system in it. Shooting was at 21 ft. At least I had brought my 625 and my Sig RCS with me to keep me busy while junior ran through the rest of my expired xtp...oh well, back to the reloading bench!
