Default S&W 745 “Left Over Parts” Becoming Models

If you’re not interested in 745’s or other S&W products that they put together with left over parts inventory, (and then gave FANTASTIC names to,) just move on from this.

Another post 745 production showed up, and now I suspect there are probably more.

I still feel very lucky to have gotten my ANIB “745 Performance Center Special”, (1998,) just a few years ago. It was $700.00 and actually checks out with a PC Product Code and Earl confirmed/remembered the 15 Lew Horton got in 1998.

Now I see another one, (1990,) This one was named “745 .45 Special Limited Production” with a different Product Code. It seems S&W was using up leftover 745 parts right away.

Wasn’t there a “Classic” series offered in some other models? I’m definitely not putting these products down but the marketing and frugal use of leftovers still amazes me.

Jim

The last gasp of 745’s in 1990 were the ones with the adjustable rear sight. At least, that’s the way the Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson tells it.

S&W did not and does not have a habit of wasting a supply of parts.

Earlier than... ?
The early 745’s were all the IPSC Anniversary marked pistols with the DVC serial prefix.

You can see this in the electric guitar world also - Fender was known for creating models to use up parts.
