Can anyone identify what gun this mag is for? Marked 45CAL, doesn't fit any one my 1911's so not mil-spec. Came from a friend in a gun safe clean out.

It's for a 4506, or other full sized 4500 series semi auto. It will fit the 7 round guns as well, but will stick out the bottom.

That particular one is an early 4506 mag, so it is roughly the third or so update of the series. First was metal floorplate and metal follower. Next was that plastic follower but still metal floorplate. Those were 645/745 mags.

The one in the picture has the plastic floorplate but early plastic follower. They added some refinements to the feedlips with the later updates of magazines. Black and yellow follower came next.

It’s a perfectly good mag that will fit all the full size S&W 2/3rd Gen .45’s, except the PC 945’s where it will not latch in place.

Most would make the argument that the black and yellow follower magazines are better, due to the updated feed lips, but yours works well also.

It's almost identical to my 945 mag but lacks the slot in the proper place to lock it in...as you stated Sevens

I agree a S&W 4506 or a variant of it.

First version of the 4506 magazine, late versions had a black color follower. It will fit the 645, 745, and full size 45xx pistols. It will also function in the compact 45xx pistols, but the bottom of the magazine will extend from the bottom of the receiver and it is possible to over insert the magazine and damage or break the ejector.
