Product review: KSD stocks
I’m calling this a 10 out of 10!
Specifically, I’m talking about a set of KSD stocks that fit the Performance Center 952 series of pistols. I’m in communication with KSD now about hopefully updating their website to better reflect this product. At the moment it says only “S&W Performance” and doesn’t specially mention the 952, so when I ordered it felt like I was taking a little gamble in how they would fit.
It’s worth knowing if you aren’t aware that while the 952 was certainly patterned after the legendary Model 52 pistol, it’s a different animal. It has a similar look and the stocks look as if they would interchange. Though the rough dimensions are similar, the geometry of the grip screw holes is not exactly the same. This is a little maddening and for my buck — a dumb move, I see no quality reason why the design of this gun would move one screw basically 1/8 or 1/4 inch and make literally fifty years of original 52 stocks not able to fit on the 952.
More to the point, nobody that I have ever seen outside of Nill, Germany ($$$$!) has ever made or currently makes replacement or aftermarket stocks that will fit a 952. But KSD does!
KSD is located in Turkey so the shipping took a little time but DHL handled it and no joke, between e-mail and txt updates, DHL did a overboard top notch job of bringing these to me exactly as promised. More updates than even the most hardcore needs.
KSD cannot legally put a S&W logo on their product, but they use a really tricky knockoff that may seem cheesy if you try to overthink it. Frankly, I think it looks very tasteful and you may not agree with me but I personally believe these look better than the original stocks.
Specifically, I think the finer checkering looks amazing and the emblem is smaller, more the “right” size where I personally think the OEM 952 stocks had a S&W logo that was just too large and gangly looking.
The fit is precise and perfect. I’m sure the market for replacement/aftermarket stocks for the 952 is slim but let me say this... if you found yourself in the position of NEEDING stocks for a 952, I think you’d be up the creek if not for these from KSD.
I have a couple photos and I hope you’ll agree that these are just a great product. And no, I have no affiliation with them and haven’t been offered a single Turkish nickel for this review. I’m just a gun guy who loves a great product and likes to help out other folks who might be in the game for ‘em.
Here’s the pics:
*NOTE*
It appears that the Performance Center elected to use slightly different grip screw bushings on the stainless 952-2 and the OD of the bushings are just ever so slightly larger. That simply means the stock requires the tiniest bit of fitting that even a fool like me can handle.
P.S. Haha, I’m long winded. Sorry for that. Kind of.

I have a set on my CS45 . I really like the feel and look . Do they make them for the 945 ? That would look great , the wood against stainless steel .

They don’t make them for the 945 currently. But I may chat with them and see if I can get them to do that. Would be an excellent idea.

Great looking grips and a nice compliment to those very special pistols.
KSD does a super job and are a nice option for us. I hope the ordering process is better now. The communication was instant but at times “interesting” to say the least. I actually got pictures emailed to me during the process of them making them and then finished.
When I got a couple of grips from them they said that they weren’t supposed to do the S&W logo but it was possible. They did put the logo on them so that was cool. Maybe now they really can’t and won’t do it.

I was going to buy a pair for my 4006TSW, but I kept hearing bad reviews about the grips cracking where the pins went in, and at $90 + S&H per pair, I wasn't willing to put it to the test.
As far as the S&W Logo goes, it appears that they don't "officially" offer them through their website, yet there are a lot of "private sellers" online who just so happen to ship from Turkey where KSD is located who sell "look-a-like" KSD Grips with the S&W Logo on them.

Yes for sure, I read about that really actually happening with the KSD S&W pined grips.
The two I got were of that type. To me it appeared that the hole in the grip was too small. When I started the grip pins in it was confirmed. I used the next up sized drill bit and just fractionally enlarged the grip pin holes of the grips. Neither grips have cracked and are still very secure and tight in fit. They are so perfectly made that you might not even need a grip pin. (Of course I’m kidding. I guess these days you need to say that.)

I can second that the KSD grips are quality and a bargain. They look great too! I had one on my 1006 and kept it when I sold the 1006. I have a 1026 now with a custom modified stock grip on it(looks like it was stippled for better grip during competition), but I can change it out to the KSD when I want. I bought the KSD
grip used and it was missing the mainspring plastic piece, so I emailed KSD inquiring about purchasing a replacement. They sent me one free of charge within a week(from Turkey!)
Here is an old picture of the 1006 with the KSD grip.

How much girth do these grips add to say a 4506-1 or a 3913?

Practically none, one of the appeals of KSD grips is that they're essentially just wooden versions of the factory polymer grips, unlike most other wooden grips like Hogues which are thick slabs of wood.

I have a set on a CS9 and I like them very much. These are the one piece grips and were a bear to install (first time). The Chiefs Special came with Hogue rubber grips which are very fat. These grips slim the CS a great deal, which is good for me with my small hands.

Exactly. The KSD grips I have, (CS9 and 45,) are almost identical in thickness to the factory rubbers. But they feel thinner and sure look better. In my opinion. Shirts or coats don’t stick to them but the KSD CS9 ones are longer in the heal like a pre-rail 3913TSW grip if that makes a difference.
I still think the best option for the CS series would be one of TercGen’s. I myself need to go that route while he still is doing his magic making them. That’s not we are talking about though.
Pictured is my CS9 with factory and KSD grips side by side.
