Default 15 to 20 years ago S&W Target pistol?

I went to the range with a casual friend and fired his new S&W Target semi-auto pistol. It fit me like a glove and I out shot him with his new pistol. Now 15 or 20 years later I would like to find a used one, but have no idea what model it was. I think it was a stock .22 LR with a 10 shot mag and a thumb nail stock, not sure if it had a Bull barrel but had very good adjustable sights. Does anybody have any idea what models S&W had 15 to 20 years ?

My guess would be a Model 41, arguably the best target pistol made...

Did it look anything like one of these?

This is a Model 41. over the decades it has been offered with several different barrels. This firearm is currently offered from the factory with these two barrels

Is there a specific reason you want a used one?

A new one would come with Smith & Wesson's warranty, a used one would not

The only other new S & W .22 semi-auto pistol available in 2001 would have been the one of the model 22 series. Nice guns but nothing that would stick in my mind 20 years afterward (and I owned one) .

I bet it was a model 41. Very nice shooting pistol.

Agree that it was most likely a Model 41. I recall -- hopefully correctly -- that in the early 1970s the M41 had the highest MSRP of S&Ws on the market at that time. Of course the so-called "black market" crazy retail prices demanded for Clint Eastwood's M29-2 overshadowed that by a big margin. Times change.

Man, I really don't need to go out and find a Model 41...

I own a couple of the .22 series S&W's and they aren't bad pistols at all. Certainly not of the same level as a M41, but if you had a good one they are fun to shoot especially if you have a suppresser for them. They were an interesting design exercise for the time.

Likely a Model 41, but I have a Model 22S for reference in (unlikely) case.

Depending on the vintage of the gun you shot it could also have been a model 46.

It is very similar to the 41.

I see your from Mass
I'm in Western mass and know of several locally if interested shoot me a PM.
One is a 46 that is a pretty good deal.
