Very nice! Congrats.
Mine's an early model ('TET-' prefix) with the fixed Novaks. Great shooter too.

Mine is a TEW-05xx. I’m the second owner but we’ve been buds since day one since my friend bought it directly on my suggestion and then later sold it to me. I think he and I fed it four boxes of factory ammo and then I handloaded everything else it’s eaten.
As I have the original box and end label, I have the date, it’s March-something 1990. 87th day of 1990. I know that he bought it locally for just under $600 and he bought it new in 1992.

I don’t know anyone who loves the 10mm, who doesn’t also love the 10XX series of pistols too.

Oh I have most definitely met a few. It’s not caustic or mean-spirited, but a lot of the folks who love the Glock 20 and it’s 15+1 capacity don’t much care for the heavier S&W with the much less capacity.

Within my experience, the 1006s are excellent guns. I had both fixed and adjustable sighted versions. They reliably handle any and all 10MM ammo without need of extra heavy or double recoil springs, buffers, extra power mainsprings, etc. Yea, I admit it; the S&W 10XX series are my favorite 10MM semi-autos

Kinda thinking about adding a 4” to my list. What iteration is the most common? 1076?

excellent acquisition
You grabbed a gem. These things are harder and harder to find. They shoot great and are built to last. I forget the exact production numbers from my letters but pretty sure it went:
1006
1076
1066
1086
1026
1046
I'm missing 1086 and 1046 as I was never a DAO fan and by the time I saw the light on these two models, they were made out of unobtanium.
Even magazine prices on these have gone up considerably.
Enjoy in superior health!

Just picked up a 1006 10mm and the mag seems extremely difficult to load. put about 50 rounds through it after changing the recoil spring to #20. the mag seemed like it had trouble elevating the ammo to the top of the mag so it would sometimes not feed a round into the gun. I cleaned it and still same result. any suggestions? anyone have this happen before

Is the follower white or yellow?
Also, swapping out the magazine's spring, which is likely weak from use, for an XP one from Wolff's Gun Sprgs will likely solve your feeding problems.

1006- 26,978
1076- 13,805 (check)
1066- 5,067 (check)
1086- 1,660
1026- 3,135
1046- 151 rarest of all, but I believe they made one that never went into production that's actually the rarest.

Hi, I have the box and end label for my 1006 that I just bought. Can you tell me how to find the date on the label please?

On the box end label, the four digit number you are looking for is under the heading “Spec Order.”

The label would read 0087 under spec. ord.
That’s the 87th day of 1990
Mine is very close, 86th day of 1990, March 27, 1990
(Same last four digits appear under the bar code)
Here’s an cleaner example, for another gun
242nd day of 1989, so August 30, 1989

Mine is a TFJ . The label where the spec Order is has been torn , so no idea of a date . A while back I bought a box , mainly because it had papers and a tool kit . I wanted them to complete my 1006 box . That one is a TEV with a spec rod of 0054.
Oh yeah , mine has the adjustable rear sights .
