My 10's
I've been busy collecting mags. I've got one not pictured still in the original packaging.
I bought the 1026 in December of 93 it's still my favorite.

I figure the magazines are worth about 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of the guns?

I would say that’s a pretty good estimate. The three rows of five are new/unused assembled from no’s parts.
I haven’t spent the money to get history on the 1026 & 1076 but was told when I bought the 26 it was a police trade ie. Virginia state police and the 76 has has a serial prefix that could be an FBI gun.

I've got a VSP issued 1026 box I don't really need per se... although my VSP issued 1076 lives in it for now.

My 1076 has a 'TFE-' prefix. The S&W Historical letter I solicited from Mr. Jinks states that it was shipped to a P.D. in New Hampshire in 1990.
My long-time FFL came into it about the summer of 1995. With everybody back then saying the 10mm was now "a dead round," he promptly sold it to me for a song. It came with three 9-rd mags (with white followers).
As received, it was in pristine condition and even had the two 'dots' (:) stamped under the tab of the decock lever, indicating the gun had been serviced under recall for the alleged 1076 'trigger defect.'
I carried it quite a bit over the decades from there, and have about 15 of the 10XX-Series mags, along with extra white followers and black floorplates. Some were used solely as dedicated EDC/'carry' mags, while others were used hard as 'practice' or training mags. I still have some factory mag springs, but prefer using Wolff's XP mag & recoil springs in all my 3rd Gens.
Eventually the 1076 was retired as my primary EDC piece when it became apparent that 10XX-/45XX-Series parts were drying up and S&W was signaling a reluctance to continue servicing the 3rd Gen guns.

KNOCK ON WOOD... but in thousands of rounds, I have never once had a misfeed or failure to feed in my 1006 and I have only ever used the original yellow follower magazines. I have a few of the later update white follower, never used them. Only ever used the yellow ones.
Anyone have any stories of yellow follower issues?
Guess I bring it up because your picture oldman10mm has only a slew of the white followers! Seems odd that you have that many mags and none with the yellow followers... unless you swapped them out for the newer revision.

I only have one with the yellow follower, I can’t tell any difference in performance. The only ones available now are white as far as I know, I’ve never seen just the yellow followers for sale.

No functional issues ... but I had some mags in my stash that came with the yellow followers when I first acquired them. However, my S&W parts box was well-stocked with a bunch of NIW white followers, so over time I just swapped them in and retired the yellow followers to a small ziplock.

"My" "10's"
Probably should have looked at the sub-forum, but I couldn't resist
My three "10's"......no expensive mags needed, however speed strips or speed loaders highly recommended.

I love the smooth cylinder on the 610 that is a beautiful piece. I have quite a few “other” 10’s and am really enjoying shooting my Tanfoglio Stock II and Hunter 6”

10mm followers
I have 3 types of followers in my 10mm mags, white, straight yellow and angled yellow, the 15 rounders are all yellow.

Funny you should say that about the 10 being dead in 1995 as that was the year I was issued the second to last 1076 in the FBI inventory. Great gun. Shot it a lot. Never failed me.

I have never had any issues with yellow followers on 10mm or 4506s. I see no reason to switch something out when there hasn't been a problem.

How interchangeable are the slides and decocking mechanism? If I put a 1006 slide on a 1076 frame would that potentially give me an ersatz 1026?

I was wondering if it'd be possible to swap out the slide safety on the 1006 with the plug from the 1076.

Yep.
The 10mm has been declared "dead" only about a dozen times since the makers of the Bren Ten, Dornaus & Dixon, declared bankruptcy in 1987.
Throughout the '90s, I must've heard the phrase, "The 10mm?! Good gawd, man, that's a 'dead round'!" at least a gazillion times.
These days, I think the 10mm cartridge truly has had the last laugh.
Like a relentless vampire or other revenant, it just keeps coming back and back.

No, the "plug" (S&W calls it a firing pin retainer) from the 1076 has a round head and the 1006 has a "kidney" shaped cut out for the manual safety lever.
You could use the firing pin retainer from the 4583/6TSW
It has the proper shape..
Numrich has had them at a very deep discount compared to S&W pricing.
