Default Just can't find the perfect holster for my 1911SC E Series

I can't seem to find the right holster for my 1911SC. I got a Don Hume and the gun fits but I don't like the way the "mouth" of the holster leaves the trigger exposed enough to see half of the holes.

I also don't like the way the ambidextrous safety hits the upper leather that is designed to keep it off your skin. It falls right in the spot where it kind of rides the edge.

Anyway, I prefer pancake holsters that make the gun sit tight and high, I don't like the barrel coming out of the bottom of shorter jackets.

This is the 3rd Gen E series Scandium Commander.

Do any of you carry this gun, what holster do you use?

I don't carry a 1911, but if you don't mind me contributing, I can share some holster makers that make excellent quality gear. I've used IWB holsters from Kramer Handgun Leather, Side Guard Holsters, Milt Sparks, and TT Gunleather, and all of their products are top notch. They all offer pancake style holsters for 1911 Commanders, as well as belts and magazine pouches. Of the four, TT Gunleather probably has the quickest turnaround time on orders, probably about 4 weeks now. Milt Sparks probably has the longest, probably somewhere around 6 months. And sometimes, these makers have holsters ready for purchase in stock so you don't have to wait for them.

They all have websites, so you can see pictures of their holsters. If they don't post them on their websites, you could probably contact them and ask if they have any photos of the holsters you're interested in with 1911s. You could probably contact them with your concerns and they can offer suggestions as to which of their models would best meet your needs, or possibly alter their designs. TT Gunleather is pretty good about custom alterations to their designs to meet customer needs. I've got one of their Mike's Special holsters for my PX4 Compact and they minimized the slide shield to my specs.

There are, of course, production makers who also make good quality gear, but I can't comment on them as I pretty much stick to custom holster makers for my gear.

Hope that helps.

I was a little skeptical about 1791 but I am loving mine in dark brown. I use it in competition as I like leather with 1911s, this is thick and stiff leather and fits well.

Continental Op has given great advice....my own 1911Sc rides in either a Kramer, a Davis Avenger style or a Lobo.....there are legions of holster makers that would fill your order.

Bianchi makes leather 1911 holsters that I like for the ambi safety 1911. Check out their current catalog web page.

Galco makes a kydex corvus holster that I like for my 1911 with ambi safety.

I'm very happy with the Lobo Leather holsters I have. I like the snap loop but they make pancake as well. Leather holsters do require some break in but they settle in nicely to the gun that's in them. The snap loop allows me to take it on and off without removing my belt and are easy to reposition while wearing. You can see the holes in the trigger but I've not found that to be an issue. I only carry this gun in the winter when I can wear a coat.

An old time holster company, El Paso Saddlery, will do custom modifications. They modified a holster for my red dot sight at no charge.

I should add that the search for the "perfect" holster is a trial-and-error process. What works for one of us may or may not work for you. We all have holster boxes filled with gear that didn't work out in one way or another.

Best of luck to you in your search.

[QUOTE=Chief Brody;140861676]I can't seem to find the right holster for my 1911SC. [QUOTE] I would suggest Adams Holsters. The have made holsters for me for wide selection of models & brands, The quality is exceptional, as is the guarantee. IWB,OWB, Hip, Appendix, with and without safety straps. They will do Cowhide to Exotics and it will be right. Adamsholster.com. Another place that has done a number of custom rigs for me is BHL Blackhillsleather.com, again- quality, attractive, work great and it will be right for you. Both shops work at customer satisfaction in regards to fit, retention, cant, and both will make it Right!! I have both from Derringer to 500 SW's and all have performed great, no matter the weather. Be Safe,

Have you taken a look at Wright Leather Works? I have several from them, including one for my 1911SC. The predator is OWB and carries the pistol with a forward cant.

I have the 1911SE Scandium frame, 4.25" barrel. I ordered a Kramer IWB #3 in horsehide in December. The trigger is covered, and the mouth of the holster is a good fit. Horsehide holds its shape better than cowhide. It is comfortable to wear. All in all, I am very happy with it. Jim
