Another .40 advice/question, (4013
Locally I looked at a 4013 and I was startled that I REALLY liked it. (Even though it was a .40.) Maybe due to my 4513 appreciation. (?)
The price is $450.00 OTD. It is in excellent condition and has what looks like everything that it came with. There’s the correct “literature”, orange chamber insert and unopened cleaning rod, brush and mop.
I’m surprised that the original box is a cardboard one but it checks out serial wise.
I put $25.00 deposit/hold, (refundable,) on it till Monday cause I am not an impulse buyer. Seems like a deal but I’m not sure.
Again, thanks for any and all responses.
Jim

I would buy that one in a heartbeat. I missed one locally awhile back for a bit more than price you mention.

Sounds like a good deal to me!
Their single stack (8) rd. magazines are getting scarce but I wouldn't let that deter you.
I'm guessing only the later models came in the blue plastic boxes that appeared about 1995.
The rev.1 came with the single recoil spring & the later rev.4 came with the dual recoil springs on the skinny .237" FLGR.
I got lucky & was able to add second one to my collection but I'd buy another one for that price.
Let us know how you like it.

How do they shoot compared to the later 6906-derived 4013TSW/shorty forties?

I had one of those years ago. Same size as a 4516. IIRC there were plans to use it as a compact 10mm.
I never qualified with it, so I didn't carry it and sold it off during the divorce purge when I dumped all my 40s. Very nice pistol. VERY accurate with Ranger 165 grain 40. I sold the remaining mags I had for it a few years back.
Sometimes I wish I still had one. And for $450, I would! Regards 18DAI

The 4013s/4053s are gaining popularity because they can be converted to 10mm. $450 for a 4013 is good.

Thanks for the replies and I respect and appreciate all of the input.
I thought I’d do it but like the 4040PD, (I asked about here,) I’m not familiar with the 4013. Ironically it’s at the same place but is $25.00 more. There was just something about it that seemed “right” to me. Hard to explain.

Well (& I'm probably going to be in the minority here), I've got a 4040PD that I'd gladly trade for a nice 4013.
My 4013s have never disappointed me.

Even IF the .40 was 'a dead round,' a 4013 purchase is still worth it for the potential upgrade conversion to 10mm, which in that package gives you one helluva of "Pocket Rocket" ... so you can rock it like Crockett! LOL!

I agree if I had to choose.
I picked up the 4013 this afternoon and for whatever reason I really like it. I got my 4040PD at the same place, (in the same condition with everything,) a few months ago so I don’t have to pick one over the other. But IF I had to I would keep the 4013 even though I have “too many” 4040PD magazines now.
I keep saying it but I can not understand why these perfect S&W’s are going for such reasonable prices. Other than they are .40’s.
I also don’t get why someone would buy one of these, just put them away and now sell them for maybe 1/2-1/3, (?,) of the price they originally paid. Hmm

That sounds like a really great deal, Jim, considering condition and extras!
I recently acquired a nice 4053 (the DAO version) here on the Classifieds.
In much the same frame of mind when I purchased a rifle because I got a great deal on ammunition, I got this 4053 because I had a spare narrow hood barrel and a couple of magazines.
I didn't really want or need a single stack 40, but the 40/10 conversion addicts on this Forum have worn me down, and now I feel compelled to comply.
Resistance is futile, but I'm still adamant about NOT converting my CS40/45.
I still think it would be too hard on the Chief...

Of course John I have to place the blame on you for my sudden interest and “flourishing examples” of .40’s now. First it was just the .40 top end for my CS45, (thanks again for the help/advice,) now look what’s happened.
I agree that my CS45/40 will remain that combination. For now I guess I’m more than happy JUST having .40’s and NO 10mm’s.
I might soon need to change to 4TGUY though huh. ?

I never fell for that 40S&W losing ground talk. The 40S&W is what I look for, and my Beretta 96G, Browning HP, Glock 32, S&W 4006 CHP, and Sig 226 & 229 all shoot 40S&W, 357Sig and 9MM. My 4013 shoots 40S&W and 10MM. The 40S&W performs just like President TRUMP. Some just can't handle performance or reality. The good news is that the 40S&W hate speech has made a lot of fine pistols available at a reasonable price. And thanks to Bar-Sto, KKM Precision, BMCM and others for the conversion barrels.

Now I see that you’re interested in 4040PD’s. Thought you were getting “out of it.” Too funny and good luck with stopping at this point.
Sure wish I hadn’t recently got my pre-rail 3913TSW cause I think we could have come to some sort of trade. I still appreciate your offer to me for one of yours a couple of years ago.
Good luck with your search and also your sale.

The search was successful, but I need another. I have two sons. I just finished up my 2nd 4013 10MM package by adding a 2nd 40S&W barrel and boring the chamber to 10MM, modified the magazine to 10MM, and replaced outer recoil spring to a Wolff 23#. Now, 10mm or 40S&W with just a quick change of barrel, recoil spring and magazine. And to make it combat ready, I added the de-cock only modification.
