This weekend I purchased a near-new (this thing looks like it has barely been fired) 4567, serial number TFNxxxx. I’ve already ordered a set of Hogue wood grips to dress it up, but I was hoping the experts here could educate me on sights. It’s got working rear night sights but the front is not functional. Does the 3rd Gen require a specialized sight pusher to remove the sight, or would a competent gunsmith with a universal pusher be able to do it? Also, would the spurred hammer assembly from a 4566 or 4506 just drop in?

Trijicon can probably re-lamp the sights for $57 - just get an RMA and send them the slide.

Very nice find! Only 1,236 manufactured....I’ve own 2 of them....apparently one was issued to Saginaw Police and had their emblem stamped on it

Thanks. In normal times I’d absolutely do that. Right now though shipping seems to take a lot longer than normal, and ideally I don’t want to have a slide out in shipping for several weeks. I’ll give them a call though and see about turnaround times.

The last sights I sent to Trijicon for the re-lamp service were received by them on 6/10 and I got them back on 7/9.

Just spoke to two friendly CS reps at Trijicon. They identified the time number for my gun and for $60 they’re sending me a new front sight...sounds like about a month lead time since it will need to be manufactured. Not surprising since I can’t imagine there are too many people looking for new night sights for 45xx pistols these days.

Yes but that would ruin the coolest part of the gun.

Seek a professional for installation or risk damaging something and be very unhappy with yourself. The sights are removed and installed in a particular direction and it requires fitting it to the dove tail so they install properly and so your not overly applying unnecessary force.

I did this on mine when they were available N.I.B., I never did like the spurless hammers..

It is a no brainer modification.... VERY easy.

Since you are removing the front sight, why not send it to Trijicon for a $19 re-lamp rather than buying a new sight for $60? The turn around time would probably be the same.

I would have had the front sight re-lamped, but since you have bought a whole new front sight, do not think that you can do this yourself with a mallet and brass drift. You must use a sight pusher tool or have a qualified gunsmith perform the installation.

Yeah I'm absolutely not going to mess around on this one. I'm going to have it done by a professional who knows what they're doing. I don't want to risk messing up a nice gun doing something I don't have experience doing. And part of the reason I ordered a new sight is that the front sight on mine appears to be slightly damaged - the front sight isn't dim, it doesn't glow at all. The rear sights are fine. And given that the sights have a 2014 date code, the only explanation is that the tritium vial on the front sight leaked at some point prior to my acquisition of the pistol, making it potentially not a candidate for relamping. I believe I can still cancel my order since it hasn't been produced yet. Is there a good way to determine if a sight is okay to relamp?

All the more reason to let Trijicon make that determination since a dead sight dated 2014 would be a warranty issue.

I asked Trijicon CS about that before ordering a new sight. Trijicon won’t warranty it since I’m not the original purchaser of the sights.

Alright, y’all have convinced me. I cancelled my order for a new front sight and I’m sending the slide to Trijicon for re-lamping. Has anyone had a vial in any color other than green put into a front sight? I know they don’t sell them new that way but wasn’t sure if it was even possible. And what’s the best way to package the slide for shipping so that I don’t run the risk of moisture getting into it? I was thinking factory case with a desiccant pack, but I’m certainly open to other suggestions.

Another interesting piece of info about this pistol - per S&W CS it was made in 1990. Does this make it one of the earlier 4567s? From what I’ve read most seem to have been made in 1991 or 1992.

Thanks! I’m really happy with how it looks after putting the wood grips on it. The stock plastic grips give the pistol an all business look, but there’s something about wood grips on a steel handgun that just make it look more special. This definitely isn’t a carry gun, but that’s what I’ve got an M&P for.

Nice choice with how the black in the wood picks up the slide. Sweet for sure. Likey likey!
