Default CS9 at LGS

Stopped by a semi-local gun shop and the shelves were pretty bare. However, they did have a used CS9. Sticker of $400. I didn't try to bargain but I'd expect there to be some leeway. They said it came in yesterday. It only has one magazine and no box or papers. It has rubber S&W branded Hogue like grips. I have no idea what the original grips were or if those are the OEM grips.

The gun itself is in excellent used condition. I've be very surprised if it's had much more than a box of ammo through it. You can tell it's been shot but otherwise looks pretty darn new.

I do have pics on my phone if somebody is really interested. I'm not home so off hand I don't know an easy way to post pics. I've never done it from my phone.

I seriously considered trying to make a deal but I just bought a tractor and I'm still married. I don't really know what would be a good deal on that gun.

$400 would be a bargain here these days if it functions properly. They are crazy accurate for their size, and built solid. If you are going to pass, who has it?

I have a CS9 , 45 and a 40/10mm . They are all great guns . Don't hold a lot of rounds , but most of us aren't into the " spray and pray " method of shooting . I sent my CS9 to BMCM and he worked his magic on it . What was once a good S&W is now a great S&W . You can't go wrong buying one of these and $400 is a fair price . Last time I looked ( yesterday ) Midway has mags on sale .

Seems like a good price to me, considering gunmageddon.

I could click "Like" on all of the replies but I'll just add my own.

Item - you won't get another shot at a CS-9 for 400 bucks. No pun intended.

Item - the CS-9 came with the rubber grips. This is a CS-45 with original rubber:

This is a CS-9 with after market grips:

That's just so you know what they look like from the outset and after being modified. As you can see the .45 is stainless but the 9 is blued.

They are excellent pistols.

Item - nobody can control your family or your budget better than you can. So, while I really did like all of the replies, I recognize that only you can determine if 400 bucks is money well spent for yourself at this stage of your life. Just realize that in this day and time even finding a CS-9 borders on miraculous and 400 bucks is an excellent price, especially for one in great shape. That's the whole matter in a nutshell.

Layaway!!

Good price on a great little 9. Mags are not hard to come by. And member TercGen makes great replacement Delrin grips for the CS9.

At that price, in the unlikely event you don't love the CS9, you cn always get your money out of it in the classifieds here.

Buy it, shoot it, love it. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

Sounds like a good price for one in decent shape. Have heard the going price more like $475 if one can be found. Have not seen one in my area of the northeast at all. Bought one back in 99 in stainless and for once used my head and hung onto it not like the 39 I sold! GRRRR Lot of folks seem to be hanging onto Third Gens I have noticed. Think you should buy it!

I believe the fat rubber Hogue's are S&W OEM.

They're neat little guns. Feed em something they like and
they'll surprise you at 25 yards.

Good price for sure. I owned a couple and never found them as accurate as some other guns, but they were dependable.

I think you should go back and buy it. I looked for almost 3 years for a CS9 hoping to find a used black one. I bought the first one I could actually touch. It was new and never fired and it is still in that condition.

I appreciate all of the responses and I'm sorry I didn't get back earlier.

You guys talked me into buying it. It turns out I couldn't actually take it with me as they'd just got it in and they hold used guns for a couple of weeks and run them to confirm they aren't stolen.

I'm not thrilled with the Hogue like grips. I'm sure they work well at the range but to me it's silly to make such a nice thin gun for carry and then slap thick rubber grips on it. I'll be looking for thinner grips.

I generally never pay asking price for a gun other than a new blue label gun but they wouldn't bargain on it. I don't blame them as it was pretty lonely in the case. They obviously need inventory.

The shop was fairly busy but it seems it was mostly people picking up guns that had been previously back ordered. Not that it makes any difference now but it was B & H Police Supply or gun shop on Merritt Island.

I was out of town visiting my brother and stopped in just to see what was new. The place was pretty bare other than some used police trade Glocks. I'm surprised nobody was buying those but maybe they are and they just have a bunch of them. I think they were all full size duty guns but I didn't really look at them. I'm all caught up on Glocks.

Oink,
I agree completely with respect to the Hogue grips. I put Hogue grips on my 10mm's & love them but on my CS9 I replaced them with the standard one-piece wraparound plastic grips the other 3rd gen pistols use. (Run's in mind that the Ladysmith grips will fit perfectly, but can't remember for sure.) Anyway, with that one small change my CS9 is my second favorite CC pistol. (A 4040PD is my favorite.) Also, I agree with the others. If for some reason you don't like it, you won't have any trouble selling it on this site.
Cheers!
CMR

$400? Wow. I'd jump on that in a split second. Nice find, and a very good 3rd gen. Last one I saw was at our local quarterly gun show, last year, and the seller wanted $600, and it was well worn. A bit rough, actually.

$400 for an excellent condition CS9 is a great price, especially these days.

Get in touch with "TercGen" here on the forum, he can modify the 3913 grip to fit the CS9. He has done a lot of grips for members here including myself, the CS9 should have come with his grip from the factory.
I am sure you can do a quick search of the forum and find pics and discussion of his work.

Thanks, I may go that route. I can't even pick the gun up until after the 4th and I'm not sure exactly when I'll make it back to Merritt Island. I'll shoot it before I spend any more money on it. It might end up going to the wife as I recall the slide was pretty easy to work plus due to the design it should be a pretty safe purse gun. Maybe I'll get my G43 back, although I haven't really missed it.

We have the same 2 week hold in Palm Beach County. The gun info is entered on a “Sheriff’s Sheet” like any pawn shop would do for any item they take in. But if we take in a gun at a gun show, we can sell it 5 minutes later. Funny how that works. GARY.
