Sloppy S&W Factory Warranty Service
Yesterday, I received a pistol sent in for a safety issue; the hammer was following the slide into battery at times. It comes back with the primary issue corrected to the point its no longer a major safety issue. It no longer follows the slide into battery during firing but will follow the slide when the magazine release is engaged. In addition to this, the cracked grips I wanted replaced were replaced with grips that aren't correct to the pistol. Its a standard DA/SA 5900 series and they put decocker-cut grips on it. Technically, they did honor the 'warranty' on the old style grips cracking, but its like they don't give a rat's fart. I have correct grips on the way from a third party seller. Disappointed in the quality of the work. AND it took eight weeks for them to do this. Hereon things will go to a local gunsmith. Just disappointed in their lack of attention.

This would have served us better having been sent directly to the Manager of Quality control, or repair section at the factory. I doubt anyone from the factory reads the Forum.

Possibly they no longer had the “correct” grips in stock, & installed what they had. GARY.

Its unfortunate and disappointing that you had such a problem. I have heard that they occasionally have stock problems with grips for 3rd series pistols, but they eventually get them back in for the more common applications - except for the 5926 style grips and the grey 3913 grips which I had understood were unavailable.
I assume you got the grips for 5926 with the frame mounted decocker - these are impossible to find. You can probably put on Classifieds or eBay and make someone happy. I would trade you a set of new SW 5906 straight grips straight up but you apparently already have on order.

Did they indicate on the work order what was done to "repair" the problem?

Aren't those frame decocker grips rather rare?

I did forward my experience to their customer service department, not that I am expecting much given how sloppy this was handled. I'm not sending it back, I know a gunsmith that specializes in fixing vintage automatics. Just thought to give a heads up that S&W is being kinda slack during these times.
