Old Model 41 owners and ammo.
Just wanted to ask the model 41 owners from the fifties and sixties and forties.
What brand of .22 LR ammo were you shooting in your Model 41?

Back in the 70 Remington Target, but then in the early 80's it became unreliable. Switched to CCI Green Tag, but after a few years it also became a problem. Then CCI Standard Vel.

In the sixties, whatever Rem or Win ammo I could get my hands on. No CCI yet, or just starting not long after I bought my pistol. Federal was possibly not well regarded at the time. I did have a certain amount of Win match. No problems with any of it. I did start sorting ammo by rim thickness around 1970, found that CCI was almost as good as Win match, which was notably better than standard ammo. However, I never did prove one was more accurate than the other.

As a teen in the sixties I shot the absolute cheapest 22 long rifle ammo the hardware store had. Not a single problem, my model 41 just kept putting rounds down range. I wish I still had that little 22.
I enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard and sometime or other during my 20 years of service the pistol disappeared. Everyone who could tell me fate of the pistol are deceased.

Back on the Ohio state pistol team in the early 70's we shot Win std velocity for practice and match for matches.
I shot my High Standard along with a couple other folks .
The team shot 41's.

Mine's a '57 model (I think) and I've had it a long time. I use CCI-SV.

I've never had a problem with any ammo, either high-speed or standard velocity. Never used Stingers in it, as I was not sure what the effect of the slightly longer case would have on the chamber and leade. This one graduated from S&W in 1971.

My 62' used mostly Win. Super X and Rem Match until CCI S/V became available. I haven't found it necessary to buy "uber" expensive Eli for Gallery Bulls-eye! Same for my High Standards and Ruger MKII.
Full disclosure: These aren't getting much range time since putting a Nelson conversion on a dedicated Fusion receiver!
Smiles,
