Default Why do 4006TSW mags have crimped spot near base?

Fellow S&W fans,

Why do 4006TSW magazines have the "dimpled" crimped place near the base?

Any idea?

A number of S&W magazines have those indentations. I think they're follower stops to prevent people from overloading the magazine.

Similar dimples were sometimes used to limit magazine capacity to 10 round during the 1994 Crime Bill.
