Chiefs Special Basic Trifecta
The first time I ever knew about a S&W Chiefs Special was from the newsletter from the S&W Forum where a fellow posted a pic of a CS9. Prettiest thing I ever saw. I eventually found one. Then from this forum I found out about the CS40 and the CS45. I eventually found one each of them. All three now have the custom TercGen grips that really set them apart! I've attached pics of the three and call them the basic trifecta because I'm not planning of going into all the variations that were made. I've learned so much from reading the posts on this forum and thank all of you for taking the time to share what you know and have learned over the years.
Regards,
bikermikeflhtcu

KAHR base plates on CS9 magazine
Nice group of Chiefs Specials !
After years, & multiple opportunities of passing on them, I finally gave in & got one recently.
I'm glad I did. I like it better than I thought I would.
I see you have the Kahr K9 metal base plate assemblies on your CS9. Don't know who gets credit for that "adaptation" (I first saw it in a post by therealsmithfan) but I bought a couple sets to try.
The standard curved CS9 base plates are great for range time but they don't conceal as well, in some situations it seems, & stick out being noticeable.
I've tried some of the 3913TSW flat base plates but I'm liking these pretty good so far.
Two fingers fill the grip frame for me & the thinner Kahr base plate, with it's curved up front lip, allows my pinky to comfortably find the bottom of the mag.
I added an O-ring to the mag's body, above the base plate, to fill the exposed metal that extends past the grips frame. It doesn't affect mag insertion as it's slightly stretched & thinner than the gap.
Just another option to try on these great little pistols.
Now it looks like I need to add a set of TercGen grips to mine too, for the ultimate combo.

Thanks BLUEDOT37,
I got the info on the Kahr base here on the forum and really like it for carrying.
I like the idea of the O-ring on the 9mm mag. Do you know the diameter and ID of the O-ring shown? I'd like to pick up a couple.
You can't go wrong with the TercGen grips. They really refine this series of pistols. I can't figure out why Smith never offered the hard grips as an aftermarket option to the std. soft rubber Hogue grips.

The O-ring I used was one I had on-hand that was a near ideal size.
It's outer diameter measures approx .903" (15/16" or 23mm) & is .116" thick (7/64" or 3mm).
I'm planning on going to Ace Hardware tomorrow to buy an extra one & I'll let you know what # O-ring it is.
.
PS: I updated post #2 with pics of the O-rings (#14 & #57) that work. These are both 3/32" thick. The next thicker size is 1/8" & they are too thick.

Congrats on the lovely trio of Chiefs Specials bikermikeflhtcu! You have been great to work with over the years as new grips for new pistols were needed, and I have to say that they look fantastic all together. Nice to have some options when deciding what to carry, and hard to beat a Chiefs Special in the holster.
BLUEDOT37, I really like the addition of the o-ring to the kahr base plate. Thank you for posting it and also for the info on the type of o-ring used. Now to get you some proper grips for your CS9...

I got a wild hair and decided to try accumulating at least one VG example of every CS variant. What a rabbit hole.

That's soooooo soooooo funny!!!!!!!!!!!
I just have two. I think I need new springs for the CS-9's magazines. Where do I get those?
Those are not genuine TercGens. He told me so.
-----------------
I got this one in 2000 directly from S&W in exchange for a blown up M19. Plus cash; their cost.

Thanks BLUEDOT37 for the o-ring info. Gonna pick a few up next time I'm out and give 'em a try.

Here's my contribution . One of each , except the CS40 is now a CS10 . BMCM has worked his magic on all three , so you can imagine how well they shoot . But I either have to find a CS40 or a barrel so I can once again have one of each .
