Mothballed 41 4 digit #
Hi Folks been reacquainting my self with my Smith collection
and pretty sure my 41 is an oldie 46xx model_41
long barrel with muzzle brake and a second barrel same length
with just a small black aluminum cap where the brake would affix
I am looking or a rough age on it and if it is a first run and anything else I can find out about it like why I might have 2 barrels ? same length
And if ya'all don't mind I have several others I want to research
thanks

Your model 41 was most likely shipped from S&W in the late spring or summer 1958. I’m showing #4612 was shipped in May 1958. Remember that S&W is notorious for not shipping in serial number order. The only barrel available in 1958 was the 7 3/8” with the muzzle break. The “aluminum cap” was introduced in 1958 and could be original to the pistol or could have been brought as an accessory.

That's some good news
Thank you I figured it went back to the early days I have owned it or 25 + years and I am a 55 model so almost as old as me !
Most of my questions are on Revolvers but I have a model 52-1
#1039xx
The other, Model 745 #DVC 4544 10 th anniversary 1976 - 1986
IPSC The dates say alot but don't if there was anything special
about it like a PC gun is now action wise as it has a real nice trigger pull and a real good shooter , I have owned it since new.
thanks again

You have a couple of nice S&W semi-autos there.
As already mentioned your model 41 could be 1957, most likely 1958. Only a letter will tell. If you post a picture we may be able to say if the barrel is original.
Your 52 is desirable, made in the 1960s. Very accurate and reliable pistol.
The 745 fits in with the 52, having been made with 52 type engineering and precision. S&W made less than 5100 in the DVC serial range and stamped with IPSC ANNIVERSARY. Which in my book makes it desirable and collectable, not to mention a top shooter.
Being a lover of these 3 pistols I may have a few examples in my safe...

So I have a model 41 with serial number
45xx what year might it have shipped. It
would be awesome if it shipped in 58 as it
would give me another birth year gun in my
collection .

Here is the redacted letter I got back on my 745. It’s not an accurate letter regarding some things, but Roy replied back to my questions in an email. I feel the numbers are probably correct. Nice pistol.

Judging by your Avatar you have that fondness of small caliber
accuracy pistols and that I share with you , I have quite a few but one I might stump you on perhaps Agner M-80 does that ring a bell ? funny that it takes 41 mags with a slot modification
so I am able to have more than 5 round mags for it and just wonder if Smith had anything to do with the design if not they flat out copied the magazines perhaps you know

Thats about as good as it gets on history on the 745 Anniversary
model It shoots as good if not better than my Gold cups and
right up there with my PC Govt model I got last year and glad it takes the plentiful 645 mags

That's info is good to know. Most books list 5000 745s as being manufactured. I knew this was incorrect, this letter confirming it.
You should post it into the standard catalogue additions and corrections section of the forum.

I have a fondness for Smith & Wesson pistols. My avatar is actually 10 of my model 41-1s in 22 short. I lucky enough to have a couple.

I can only imagine how long it took to track them down
I have never even seen one in person Lucky for sure and Driven no doubt.
I would prob better off posting up the Revolver's on the other side
What I am attempting to do is put a story to these firearms
for my Son so one day when they all will be his he will know what he has in my words not just a google search
Other owners and collectors offer so much So Thanks.
