Mirror polishing my 4566 tactical
Hey guys I really like the 45 tactical and Smith and Wesson lettering on the side of the slide of my 4566 tactical but I customize all my guns, I've already did an Excellent trigger job, put a Hogue handall, on it, polished the feedramp and barrel throat and hood and now I want to polish the slide and barrel. No worries about the barrel but I'm afraid it will take the lettering off the side of the slide. What do you guys think?
Thank you!

I don't have one of these and have obviously never tried it, but I imagine that lettering/design is laser engraved. So if your very careful maybe but I would put money down on parts of it polishing away.

Yes polishing will remove the billboard from the side of your pistol. This is my 4006 TSW CHP
And you will lose the Smith & Wesson logo

Polishing is a surefire way to diminish the value of what looks to be a fine arm in terrific shape.

Hard-chromed 4566 with slide flats polished shiny. 'Billboard' is intact.
Bling, bling ...

I think anyone you show the gun will tell you it looks good. Only because you are holding a gun.

Any time you polish, blast on in any way change the look of the firearm you are no doubt diminishing its value. Having said that, it is your pistol to do with as you see fit, but a true S&W person will know it's been messed with. Make a mistake and it's all over but the crying.

What's on the left side of your slide is not the billboard they're talking about.
Here's the billboard

I agree with what's been the consensus, it'll definitely reduce the value and I'd never do it to a gun with a decent finish.
However, if the finish is messed up or in bad shape then why not?
I never sell any of my firearms anyway.
To answer your question, if you're careful it can be polished without removing too much of the inscription.
Here's a 1066 I re-did inside and out for the same reasons, but I would have left it alone had the finish been in great shape to begin with.

The new S&W 4566 Pimpomatic is what you'll have.

It's your gun so I wouldn't worry about affecting the value if you aren't. However, I like the original finish better than the super shine. But that's just my opinion. Do what looks good to you.

You should mirror polish and add gold accents. I'm absolutely positive the added polishing and gold plating increased the value of mine.

My FFL does this professionally and is dang good at it...
I've had him do 3 guns for me, but...... they are so darn pretty I just sell em off because I can bring myself to shoot them...

Bad idea. Should you ever need to resell it, you won't even get what you paid for it.
Takes it from collectible to close to junk.
That said, remember you came here asking for opinions.
It is your firearm, do as you chose.

I decided not to polish the slide but I did the barrel. I really like the lettering too much to polish it off. It's very clean and it came in the matching case and all paperwork

Does polishing the exterior of the gun make it more tactical than it already is?
