No problem. Just go up a few pounds from the 17# to a 19# recoil spring (Wolff #47919).

That's what I run in my 4586.

Default You are going to want to bump up your magazine springs as well.

Wolff has 5% + magazine springs also. That is what you want.

Yes....it is even safe to shoot super with stock spring...As long as you don't go overboard and stay in the normally accepted .45 Super range of pressures it is totally safe to shoot "super" in that gun.. (we are talking about 200 grain bullets at a little over 1200 fps or 255 grain bullets at a little over 1000 fps for "normal" super loads. I am sure there are those who have pushed those bullets faster but I have not and I have had NO issues with my 4506 with loads in this range.)

Thank you guys! Going to order the extra power mag springs and recoil spring from Wolff right now. I really love the Smith and Wesson forum people. I was on Sig forum and those people are not as friendly and helpful. Thank you!

Default I have a 645 and a 4506 both set up for 45 Super.

After playing with various loads for them for a couple of years now. My experience has been that the 45 Super round really comes into it's own with heavier bullets. Specifically speaking I have had excellent results with a 260 grain Speer .451 jacketed hollow point.

Everybody has their own preference but I like the 185 & 200gr JHPs in my 45 Super loads the best.

Reason: the lighter weight bullets leave more space for powder. More powder = more bang.

In my 3rd Gens either Nosler or Zero 185gr JHPs, Power Pistol @ 11.3grs, CCI-300, & a COAL= 1.220" is my max.

That load was worked up in my Colt Govt 1911 Mk.IV Series 70 (setup for 45 Super) & it's not fully supported chamber. A couple tenths higher & case bulging starts. COAL max is 1.200" for this 1911 because the Colt has a shorter leade/freebore than the 3rd Gens.

3rd Gens have plenty of support. No worries about bulging.

I personally wouldn't use ammo not specifically designed for the firearm in question. I have read reports here of vintage revolvers and pistols being irrevocably damaged by using +P loads. Cracked frames being the most common incident. Consider if blowing apart your not-easy-to-come-by 4566 is worth a little extra pow in your shots. I would suggest a S&W M&P2 in 45ACP if you're going to follow this. At least this model is readily replaceable.

Old, 38 Special revolvers were from a very different era in terms of metallurgy and heat treatment. When it comes to the 4506 and it's variations, I think it is important to remember that the late production 4506 and variants, the ones without the step on the sides of the receiver, are the same receivers and slides that S&W used to make the Model 1006 and its variants. The 10mm S&W's have no issues with durability, I think as long as you set up a late model 45XX with springs like the 10XX and don't go nuts with reloads, theses pistols will do just fine in 45 Super.

Yeah I think you're right. I'm just gonna use factory 45 super loads with the extra power recoil spring. These same guns were originally built for the 10mm and nine is a hunk over 39 ounces!
