Bought a 59 hammer and strut a few weeks back. I finally got it to the grinder to shorten the spring strut, then rounded the end with a file to a good copy of the original. After much wrangling, got it back together, and all feels good. Checked with a magazine of snap caps, and single action seems the same, a long creep then a crisp hammer drop; double action also seems the same - a long steady pull with no stacking then "snap".

Safety decocker works the same, as does the magazine safety, so nothing has changed. Going to the indoor range next weekend to check it out. Always my best shooting 9mm, now I may like it even better.

The #1 thing I did not like about my 6906 was that I could not cock the hammer.

Did that to my 3913, 4516, & 469 about 5 years ago. Should have been offered by S&W. Totally improves the gun. GARY.

I’m glad you like your 6906 even more now.

But.... I would suggest you keep the original hammer around still. I went through a “phase” and I changed out mostly all of my spurless ones with spurred hammers as soon as I got them. The list is a long one and there were all the options of spurred hammers available then. I (mostly) always keep the original parts I replace.

I have put all the spurless hammers back in, (except for my 4516-2,) and have been gifting the spurred ones to other Forum members here. For me now at this time, I’m really liking the spurless hammers that these pistols came with. The DA first shot can be mastered with practice. They aren’t target pistols and I don’t need the option to cock a hammer for a first shot. I’m not convinced that pointing a pistol and cocking it actually would deter someone that was intending to hurt/rob/kill me. Some think this is a viable option to a confrontation though.

4T5GUY I never get rid of any spare parts. The original hammer and strut and the original springs, after replacing mine with new Wolff's last year, are all in the same bag, in my box maked "Parts".
