HR Funk has a couple of YouTube videos on the 5943 SSV. One comes up once or twice a year on the big auction site. IIRC they sell for between $500-$600.

I have a standard 5943 that shoots surprisingly well with the DA trigger. From what I gather none of the variants were particularly common (the steel frame 5946 much more so) but its a solid pistol. Mine has signs of duty holster wear and was likely a PD gun from somewhere. Definitely worth the sub-$300 price I paid for it.

I have one I bought years ago.
Funny how the short slide full size frame idea is now popular again.
Nice gun. I think i paid $350 for it.

Had one a while back. A 6946 was my carry gun for a long time. Then carried the SSV some. But I concluded I preferred a regular barrel/short grip as opposed to a short barrel/regular grip and found a 5944 top end for my 6946. The thing is you can carry 59XX mags or even Mec-Gar 20s for your reload in the compact guns so you're not giving up much with the short grip, and you may be gaining some concealment. Sold or traded the SSV. YMMV of course.

Neat DAO model
I have nothing but good things to say about the M5943 that I once owned. The fact is that I love the Third Gen DAO models, and prefer them for carry over traditional TDA models.
Having said that, my M5943 was one of only two DAO guns I ever parted with, the other was a M457D Chicago PD model (still looking back on that as a mistake in getting rid of it).
As with the above poster, the short slide, long grip to me is akin to a rear/engine, front wheel drive configuration, just seems backwards. Carrying a long slide, short grip gun DAO is a pleasure, the long slide easily concealed inside the pants, and the short grip prints less than a long slide.
Looking back I do miss the gun, and realizing now that getting rid of guns doesn't work if you are trying to think logically about form and function.

Holy cow!
I might consider parting with mine for that.

Almost a $25 regret…Gun show 5943 SSV
Never knew I needed one until I saw it today. Compact, lightweight version of a two tone 5906 and uses the 5906 mag. In the box, papers, extra mag. I thought I paid too much for it but then I read that there were only 3277 made. Almost didn’t buy it over a $25 difference with the seller. I walked away initially but as I walked I remembered some of my $25 regrets. I came to my senses (or didn’t) and it came home with me. I’ll get a couple of photos up in a few days. Really neat gun that I didn’t know existed or that I needed!

Here are the pics...
I have big mitts so I like the full sized grip with shorter barrel configuration. Empty, it weighs 27 oz where as my S&W 5906 is 38 oz and my Glock 19 is 24 oz. It also fits nicely into a DeSantis holster I have for a long gone P239. This may be too nice to daily carry.
