Model 41 year of manufacture
I have a model 41 with a serial number of 71421 and was wanting to know what year it was made.

Serial number 71700 was shipped in April 1965 and #72302 was shipped in January 1965. As you can see, they were not sent out in number order and this is typical for any model from S&W.
Best guess for yours is early 1965.

Serial number 499xx likely shipped in the second half of 1964.

For your file: A135109 was shipped 13 Sept. 1971 to Witte Hardware in St, Louis, MO.

Thank you BigBoy99! I’ve added that to my list this morning.
Even with verified information, dating by serial number can be difficult. For example, #15187 was shipped in Oct 1958 but #15044 was shipped in Feb 1960, 16 months later despite having a lower number!
