A good guess would be 1990 but you can get info on a specific pistol S/N from Smith & Wesson by email to

ACEd, You were right on. Got an email back from S&W, 12/19/1990.

I recently bought this pistol on the big auction site, $350 , with 5 mags. Has a cdi import stamp on the barrel, a few handling dings, but looks unfired, possibly one of the Israel re-imports.

Nice score - 5 mags (4 extra mags) at least $100 value.
Question on mags - particularly black mags (assuming thats what you got with an xx04 gun) Do they have SW markings and hole count. All my stainless mags have either SW logo, SW on baseplate, or S on side, But I have 4 black 6904 mags with no SW marking whicvh I believe to be Original SW mags - 2 with holes numbered and 2 with 2 holes on one side and 1 on other and un-numbered that came with an early 6904

ACEd,

Well, I received 2 stainless S&W 15 round factory, and three new in the package Meg-gar Mags, so maybe not as great a deal as all factory mags.

There's nothing at all wrong with Mec Gar magazines. A lot of people think that they were the OEM manufacturer for S&W.

Unless you were told that you were getting all OEM magazines and paid a premium, I wouldn't worry about it.

Oh, I knew they were Mec-gars, no problems with that. I use Meg-car's for a lot of other firearms. No worries..
