Default 4513 TSW

I have acquired a 4513 TSW, but it only came with one 6 round magazine. Does anyone here know of a source for additional magazines?

Thanks in advance....

Howard

Howard,

I went on a buying spree with the 6-round .45 mags for my 4553s. Found quite a few on here (classifieds) and eBay.

I am not looking to sell any but can help out if you're in a jam. I'll let one go. Just send me a PM if you cannot find one elsewhere.

Keep watching the usual sources.

EBay is a good place believe it or not. Look at the CS45 section cause many sellers think that the magazines they have are for the CS45. A while back I got put in poster prison for mentioning that someone had many for sale for an excellent price,($35.00.) The “penalty” was worth it to me cause several others here were able to get them too.

Watch the classifieds here. They come up now and then. “oldman10mm” seems to find them at the shows, (along with just the baseplates,) and unselfishly offers them here at his cost.

They do show up on Gunbroker but usually they are very highly priced.

Jim

When you are looking remember that there are two 4513TSW magazine versions, the 6 round you have and the later 7 round version like mine. I don't know if they interchange. Somebody here will know.

Congrats on a fine pistol find!

Howard, there is one for sale now in the Forum classifieds by member Masterbuck. The same mag fits the CS 45 and the pre-rail 4513TSW, and Masterbuck is as fine a fellow to deal with as you will ever find.

I am totally sorry I did not welcome you. I’m tired and did not even look at things.

I also figured that with your very first post here, (about the totally terrific first example non railed 4513TSW,) I needed to give you your first “like.”

Congrats on scoring a pre rail 4513TSW! Scarce bird, especially in your location.

The early 4513 is my favorite handgun and favorite carry gun. Enjoy yours! Regards 18DAI

As stated about me in post #3, Berea show is the weekend of the 17th/18th, then the NE Ohio 'bunch' meeting the following Saturday and Akron show on Sunday. After those 3 events I'll be putting in an ad for magazines in the misc classifieds forum during the last week of October.

The 7-round and for that matter the 8-round 45 mags WILL lock in and function in your 4513TSW. When I carried my 4513 in plainclothes I would often carry a 7 or 8 round mag as a reload on my belt.

As to the 6 round CS45 mags, while they are similar, they are NOT the same. The CS45 mags have indentations at the top of the mags, on either side, by the feed lips. Those stamped indentations are there to prevent the top round in the mag from moving forward during the violent recoil of the small, light weight little 45.

I have used CS45 mags in my early rail free, 6-round 4513TSW at the range. To test for function. And they did not fail. BUT, I only carry my 4513 with the OEM 6-round mags made for it. NOT with the CS45 mags. No sense tempting Murphy. IMO.

And of course I would only use the OEM CS45 mags when carrying my CS45. For the same reason. My 0.02 Regards 18DAI

I knew I had saved this picture for a reason. I usually delete things way too soon.

We’ve had this discussion here many times before. All of my CS45, (and CS40,) magazines have the 6rnd 4513TSW bases. The CS45 mag is on the right.

One of my 457s came with a 4513TSW baseplate on it and it works really well. Unfortunately, when I called S&W to see if they still had them the guy I spoke with seemed to be saying they had them, but they didn't sell them to the general public.

I might try again to see if that's a per CS rep thing or policy.

Also, I know of a couple of people who do 3D printing and have made small parts for radios and vehicles.

I'm tempted to contact a couple and see if they would be interested in reproducing the baseplates. As long as they don't reproduce the S&W logo, they should be okay. After all, people make aftermarket magazines.

I wonder if I could start a new thread with a poll to try to gauge interest. I don't want to end of in "poster prison!"

Gary if you should work that out with the 3D printer, please put me down for two of them. Thanks! Regards 18DAI

If I can work it out, I'll post the information so that people can order directly. I don't want to get involved as the middleman so that there are not complaints from the management here and also it will likely be easier and less expensive that way.

I have to get off my behind, take a couple of pictures and then contact a couple of people.

If I need to, I'll send one for the 9mm version and one for the 45ACP version. I don't know if the 40 version is the same as the 45. If not, and someone wants to volunteer one of theirs, we can work that out.

That would be excellent Gary.

I’m surprised you would send anything out again, even to trusted people. I still remember what happened with KSD and your pre-rail 3913TSW grips.

Did you ever hear anything back from them?

Never heard a word. The odd thing is that I got a phone call from Turkey and the guy assured me that they were working on it.

I know that there's a lot of turmoil over there, so maybe he was fired or went to prison.

No big deal as I had a spare set. Just odd.

I finally did get a CS9 grip that actually was correct returned to me from KSD.

I sure thought that the first grip they sent me was for a pre-rail 3913TSW cause it sure wasn’t for a CS9. That’s why I sent it to you. Nope. Sorry.

I sent it back and almost a year later I got the CS9 grip I wanted. Fit was perfect, but all in all a pretty weird experience. No issues with the CS45 one though.

I don't know what that grip was supposed to be for, but it definitely didn't fit my 3913TSW.

Oh well, just another odd experience.

I'm putting this here as opposed to starting a new thread. At least for now.

I've been in contact with someone who has the equipment and knowledge for 3D printing. I was going to send him one of each magazine tube and baseplate so he could replicate them, however he said he doesn't need them, but he does need some measurements using calipers.

Using calipers is NOT one of my strong skills, so I demurred and said it might be better if I sent the parts along.

It struck me this morning that while my caliper skills might be deficient, there are likely some smart folks here who could do the measuring.

BMCM comes to mind, but I get the sense that he's been busy between work and hurricanes as I haven't seen anything from him in a while.

Here is what was requested in terms of measurements,

"The length/width of the magazine column, and the dimensions of the lip that goes into the overhanging slot in the baseplate most particularly."

By "column" he seems to be meaning the length and width of the tube. The lip is the flange at the bottom where the butt plate slides in.

If there is someone who is good with calipers who would like to tackle those measurements and send them to me, I can forward them to him.

You can reply here or via PM.

Thanks.

Gary,

45 Magazine dimensions:

L: 34.85mm (1.372")

W: 14mm (0.55")

Length of opening at bottom (bottom of mag cut at diagonal): 36.1mm (1.42")

Each lip measures 1.725mm (.068") wide (measured from inside of mag body to outside of lip), and 23.65mm (0.93") long beginning 3.25mm (0.128") from rear of mag body.

These measurements are all O.D. (outside dimensions) and were taken from a new CS45 magazine.

Hope this is helpful.

John

I will pass these along, thanks. I expect he'll be able to use them, but if he has questions I'll pass them along.
