3rd gen safety assembly differences
Recently received a new safety assembly from Numrich and it does not have a hole for the plunger and spring on the fixed lever side. The old safety assembly was worn causing my 5906 build to function in a cocked and locked style. The new assembly does correct this issue but without the plunger and spring its loose when operating the safety. On the other side the depth of the hole is not deep enough to allow the plunger and spring for the safety lever to go back into place when fully compressed.
Anyone have any idea which model this safety could of been used in?

Your "new" Numrich manual safety body is from a 1st gen Model 39.
And if your old safety was causing your "5906 build to function in a cocked and locked style", i.e. the safety was on but the hammer did not drop, there is nothing wrong with your old safety.
The sear release lever needs to be replaced.

Weren't the 39's single sided? Or if not the right side lever screwed on like the 2nd gens? This is def ambi and of 3rd gen origins. I'll get a pic Mon since I get off work at 7am and come back tor OT 8hrs later.

Perhaps an unfinished piece simply got past quality control back in the day.

Weren't there a few .40 cal LE 3rd Gens that would drop the hammer, then snap right back to the FIRE position?

Yes , the TSW guns were pre machined to hammer drop with no safety , so it is an option on them . I've done it to my medium frame TSW guns .

Old on bottom, new on top
New on left, old on right

That looks like a decock-only safety body that is missing the spring.

Looks like my 5906 build is on hold till I get the right assembly. Don't have many smiths around me who could tackle the conversion and any adjustments.

Did you ever get your sear lever changed out and working properly? I had the same problem with my Franken-Smith 639 and changing out the sear lever was like magic!

Yeah that's all squared away. Just got to get the proper safety assembly and back in business. Hopefully the slide that comes in the mail, the safety functions properly. Will try to use the old safety on my ssv franken build if it isn't too worn.

Due to the way I acquired parts on my two slide Franken-Smith I have a 2nd Gen safety/decocker on my 915 slide and a 3rd Gen unit on my 639 slide. Why put anything where it should "logically" be?? Once I figured out how well 2nd and 3rd Gen parts could be mixed and matched, a whole new world of possibilities opened up for me.

Just wait until you get into other calibers, Mr. Froggie.
The combinations seem infinite!
I've got ideas I haven't tried yet, and wonder if I'll get to them all before I think up some new ones!

John, I’m still able to limit myself to the mantra that it’s “Smith for 9mmS and Colt for 45s.” I’m old school enough to avoid those pesky 10mms and 40s, and at my age don’t need to start down any new trails... I probably won’t live long enough to explore the ones I’ve started. In fact, I just negotiated to buy an old Remington Model 51 in 380, so I’ll have to extend my life expectancy just to deal with that! Oh well, at least I’ll never get bored.
