Default 2206TGT question

Looking at a 2206 TGT model with Pachmayr grips on it.

What originally would have been on this pistol? I looked through a bunch of posts and saw lots of different pictures with different grips. I believe they should have been the wooden 1 piece? but am not confident.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge

I'm pretty sure that the actual 2206TGT had wood grips. Mine was a 2206 with adjustable sights but wasn't the TGT model and it came with plastic grips. I ordered a set of TGT Wood grips from Smith & Wesson for mine, but later sold the pistol.

The original 2206TGT model came with two-piece Herrett wood grips.

My 2206 TGT has the two-piece Herrett wood grips like vigil described, and I have a 4.5"
622 that has the wood look plastic target grips that indigo described.

^^^^^^
Thank you sir for the picture, that is what mine looks like. I feel ashamed that I don't have a picture of mine. I spent so much time in the revolver world I didn't give my autos their due attention.

John, just curious: are you the first owner of your 2206TGT? I wonder if perhaps someone else traded out the original wood grips for the ones that are on it now? The nice grips were one of the selling points for the TGT model; that's why I ask. I've learned, like many others, that with S&W you can "never say never," but if yours came from the factory as you've described, it would be surprising. Although I will admit, as described in post 15 of skjos's thread on assembly/disassembly of the 422/622/2206 models, that member slidemusik is very knowledgeable about this group of 22's, and apparently he has seen three different styles of grips from the factory.

If there's anything about these guns that slidemusik and shootsumm don't know, it's not out there to be known.

I was not the first owner of my 2206TGT. It came to me as "as new" though. It was in pristine shape. Over the course of the several years I owned it the grips started to show the brown plastic through the pattern from wear like the one pictured in the linked thread.
I have kicked myself repeatedly for selling the TGT off. I was lucky enough to purchase a 4.5" 2206 with adjustable sights a year ago. I will be holding on to that one as a permanent member in my collection. It is a favorite.

I had one too, indigo22, that I sold off before the one that skjos refers to in his post. I enjoyed the pistol, but I had to be so careful with it to avoid scratches, etc., that I decided to replace it with a standard 2206 with 6" barrel. That gun does everything I need it to do, and for me is the Model 41 I'll never have. Still, I admire the TGT model and follow with interest any thread about it that comes along.

Thanks for your reply, which backs up slidemuzik's post about the different stocks that these came with from the factory.

I started this thread trying to find out about correct grips for the 2206tgt. I think i understand what they would or should be. Looking at one in a LGS that they are asking $595. The grips are not original (Pachmayr). What do you think the value is without the original grips and how hard would it be to replace them? Thanks

Does it have the box? What is the condition? How many mags and what round count(10 or 12 round)?

Pricing on these can be all over. With the box, in excellent condition, with at least a mag it is likely worth close to what they are asking(IMO). The Pachmayr grips are one of my favorite, I think they feel better than the factory grips, but they don't have the original appeal.

The Herrett grips are like a Unicorn, it's highly unlikely you will find a set. I bought the only set I've seen for sale in 15 years, currently don't have any intention of getting rid of them.

Mag orange follower = 12 round(more desirable)
black follower = 10 round(readily available for $25)

Only one mag with black follower. Blue plastic case. Pachmayer grips. $550.

Now I have a quest to find original grips!
Thank you all for the replies and the information

Honestly, now that I have switched to Pachmayr grips on my 4.5" 2206 I won't ever switch them back. They just feel so much better in my hand... and I was a fan of how the stock grips felt.

Thanks for the post, indigo. I might just try a pair of those myself. I like the stock grips on my 2206 just fine, but I'm always up for an upgrade. I like your 4.5" barrel model!

Had to revive this thread just to mention that a 2206 TGT just sold on GB auction site for $2000 !!!!. It is a very clean pistol with box, paperwork, etc. They are great shooters & suppressor friendly plus S&W ain't making anymore. I really like mine but at that price I might be persuaded to let it go.

Default 22lr

All I know, is those Pistols will shoot just as good or better than
the S&W Mdl 41 22lr target pistols.

I got two regular 422s and a Adjustable Sight model 622 and
they are very accurate, especially with Standard Velocity 22s.

I saw that one, there is some strange pricing going on these days with some of these pistols, a 2213 sold for close to that as well.

I really do like those Pachmayr grips on that 2206 of Indigo22. As far as the statement that a 2206 will shoot as good as or better than a model 41? It might be an interesting comparison using a Ransom Rest, but I can assure you that in my human hands there is no comparison. The model 41 is the winner for me every day.
